I wear mine if the morning is cool and later around the campfire. Things that work well are often popular to the point of becoming cliche. eBay is a good place to find one. Here’s a proper example if you wear 2XL.

I agree just wear what you want, there are no fashion police out there.

I just wore the same clothes that I wear here in the US for a fall hunt.
 
Depending on where you are going, I would suggest you buy cheaper cotton or synthetic as the cleaning in Africa beats up clothes pretty bad. I have made 17 trips and now only take clothes I plan to leave behind. I leave shirts, socks, pants, belts, hats and toiletries. The local folks use it or sell it in the markets. It also lightens your load on the trip home.

Only take what your outfitter/PH tells you. You will not need knives, multiple cameras, more than 40-50 rds of ammo. Leave spotting scopes at home, take a small 8x30 pair of binos and leave them behind if you can....
 
The Tag double shoulder shirt is real nice. Some of the Tag jacket style stuff is quality. ( kinda makes me look like a real wanna-be dude. I just wear camo, green is dominant color. When you are in the final phase fo your sneak it helps to have a way to cover your face.
 
Many of the nicest Cabela's Safari wear is no longer available. I found three beautiful Cabela's safari shirts long sleeved on Ebay which looked new. Probably went on one or too safari and into the closet.

I also found two hunting vests. A grey one from Tag Zimbabwe and an LL Bean in Green/Brown. I have a Khaki jacket from Kenya but have never used it. I layer tee shirt under a long sleeved shirt with one of the vests and am good to go. As the day warms I peel off layers. The Jacket is a bit cliche but so what? If you like it wear it. Nobody will see it but you and the PH unless you publish photos. I also take a couple of long sleeved tee shirts for any really cold mornings to wear under the long sleeved button up shirts. You can mix and match colors since laundry is done every day or two.

The bullet loops on the Tag vest are very handy and I use them often. Just right for the magnum cartridges. The shirts and vests are well designed and include a zippered pocket for holding your Passport, Hunting Permits in a secure manner. I did buy a Cabela's vest too but when I got it, it turned out to be the least functional of the three. It had a silly semi belt in the back to snug it to your waist if desired. The buckle keeps slipping loose so I tied it in a hard knot. But since I have the other two which are both great, I just leave it home.

Going on Safari is like going on a motorcycle long distance trip. First you lay out all the stuff you want to take and then you take half of it and put it back and then you pack the other half.

Dark earth tones in an all cotton shirt would be best.

My wife and I have been using the Orvis Bush Shirt in Olive (very dark brown) for years and really love them. Not sure if they still carry them or not, but they are damn comfortable.

I prefer merino for every day wear at all times. May not be as tough as cotton, but it’s definitely cooler as it wicks moisture better.

I prefer Icebreaker merino wool and wrangler shorts. Although I wore some Kuiu merino last trip too

@bakerb, Wool gets a bad rap because some of it is itchy. Merino wool is very comfortable and wicks sweat better, as you point out. Alpaca is even softer, but pricey.

A “famous” guy at SCI told us once that “in Africa, camo is worn by poachers.” He was a fan of earth tones. He was probably only half serious, but just made me wonder if that’s a real deal?
 
I like cargo pants and a long sleeve over shirt similar to what people are talking about from Cabela's and TAG. Although, Cabela's had stopped making the good shirts by the time I went, and I tried a lot of the TAG stuff and I did not like how it fit me.

I do not care for the look of the "safari jacket", although, I am sure other people on here do. For a jacket I just take a light and heavier jacket like I would wear back home in the fall. Stick to greens and browns and camo if allowed in the country you are going to.

Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.
