Does any Safari leading company offer senior citizen rates?

Thanks to all for the thoughtful suggestions and succinct calculations for cost to hire a safari company. After careful consideration I think I will look into going “Mano y Tall Grass”. Anyone with experience going solo?

Look to the former French colonies for this. I don’t believe that it is possible in RSA. Zim, Bots, Namibia, etc.. you need to be very experienced to consider this as an option.

To be more direct than some, that would be very foolish and not even possible in nearly all potential locations. Moreover, the very few places you might attempt it would demand an investment far greater than a guided hunt in Namibia or the RSA. Then there is that whole experience thing to overcome.

I’d like to go to South Africa but probably won’t. I just don’t have a burning desire to make it happen.........

No harm in asking....the OP may not be in a position to pay full price but has dreamt all his life about an African safari....who knows....

Doesn't sound like the OP has been dreaming about an African Safari very long.... Or as stated, little desire to make it happen.... California mindset perhaps.... I don't understand it.

How much cheaper do you expect a hunt to be? There are hunt packages posted for less than $4000. Stating your budget and goals will actually get you somewhere if this is a real post.

It is a real post. The first post was originally an attempt, now recognized as not, for levity championing special treatment for senior citizens. Please accept my apologies for starting a maelstrom of serious replies.

I hunted in Burkina Faso for almost 15 years with only a local guide and trackers. The hunt was not expensive. However, such hunts require that you speak French and have experience with hunting in Africa, because you have to make decisions and you also have to make your own backup. Unfortunately this hunt is no longer possible due to islamic terrorism.

If you actually want to go work out what you want and ask for quotes.

I asked for a full hunt saying I wanted the experience and happy for them to use the meat and hides anyway they want.

I didn't ask for 5 star just food, lodging, guide and animals. I also went out of season

I assume if you are asking for a deal you are not looking at trophies and the associated expense .

I'm 50 now and I'm not about to start collecting trophies as I don't want the expense of freight and taxidermy. It's just about the experience and the hunt but most here are trophy hunters so each to their own.

If I were asking for discount I wouldn't be expecting to be offered best trophy quality animals.

So what is your budget and goals?
I have no budget now as I don’t have a date as of yet. A goal is a fair chase where the outcome could go to either party involved. I’m probably wrong and with no experience, the giraffe compared to other game, seems like a foregone conclusion.

So I'm no senior at 35. But I have difficulty wrapping my head around the economic reasons for an outfitter, to provide a discount to seniors, above other population groups.

People above 65, usually retired, no more kids in the house, hopefully after a successful career are rather the ones with the funds to be able to go on a safari. Usually it is not the 20-40 year olds with heaps of children care costs, and being at the start of their career.

I could perhaps see a discount for less mobile senior's, who are mostly expecting to just sit in a blind of sorts, as this would save on fuel costs, and probably personnel costs overall for the outfitter. But that would rather be a discount due to the mode of hunting, rather than the age of the hunter.

Discounts or cheap offers for 20-30 year olds for cull's/cheap trophy animals make a lot more economic sense however, the same for father/son deals. If an outfitter can light the fire for Africa and hunting safari's in the hearts of younger people (who most likely will not have a strong financial leg to stand on yet) they are investing into their future customer base. They might be able to sell a few extra safaris, over the course of someone's life, instead of having only marketed to the +50 year olds.
hence my green horn package

A senior rate. I like the idea but do not see the economic advantage to the outfitter. In my younger days with raising children and all the commitments associated with family life the African hunting resources did not exist. Now as an older adult with fewer financial commitments it would seem that a higher percentage of hunters would be able to hunt the dark continent. It would make sense from an economic standpoint to offer discounts to those individuals who have less resources such as father/son hunts. I am always in favor of paying less for anything. From a cost standpoint I do not eat as much as I once did but my consumption of high end alcohol has increased. I can offer the wisdom that comes with age but most will not see the value of that.
The key is the outfitters cost structure. They have only so many slots so the opportunity cost for each slot is high. They have no cost break for more people when they have a finite number of hunts for sale. Based on this I would never expect any type of cost break regardless of age. Just my thoughts

I would tend to agree, game breeders (like White tail breeders) have a massive amount of White tail, a virtually infinite supply if you will.
They will run on lower rates as they sell volume and will be able to offer greater and more discounts.

Those who operate on a quota system have a set amount of species they can market every season and they are not in the position to cut costs as the group above.

The secret would be to find the “price you like” matched with the correct experience and hunt.
Best, Jaco

“I have reached a point in life where I no longer have to work and spend my leisure time traveling to foreign countries and hunting animals that younger generations may only be able to see in zoos….. May I have a discount please?”

Sorry it touched a nerve after having a new client ask for a senior citizens discount on the consulting work to save them $100k+ on the earthwork for their new lake front mansion.

Baby Boomer I'm guessing? I'm that generation but on the tail end of it. Just wait until the Millennial's start retiring.... The World needs another couple runs of the Greatest Generation;)

Anyone my age, 69, or older

At 69 you are running out of time if you do not have a date yet. Fair chase hunts are not a walk in the park. The pic below is me just before I turned 66 after a 15km hike in the bush by 10:30AM. Hopefully, I will still be able to do those when I turn 70+.

Retirement date for those of us born in the 80’s will be death! Lol

Except for a few scratches you look good to me. It doesn’t appear in the picture you are wearing a spare tire so I guess if you’re willing you should still be good at 70.
