The Rand Club is affiliated with a club I belong to at home. Has anyone stayed there or visited? General thoughts on making a trip to it?

Thanks.

Pretty cool olde worlde vibe - I haven't stayed there but attended a few functions there. The trophies are a novelty too. Nice ambience for a meal to enjoy a bit of colonial indulgence.

Not sure I'd want to stay there - it's right in the old city centre, which is not for the faint-hearted (i.e. major health warning). The location would be a (negative) consideration even for a casual visit. It's not an area for a tourist/foreigner to be wandering the streets at all, especially after dark.
If you go there, go straight to the Club and straight out again - security in the immediate environs is good.

I don't mean to be negative. I'd happily visit there again but you need to be aware!

That is very helpful information. Thanks. It is certainly a beautiful building and interior.

I certainly plan to go, may even stay a night, I love that old colonial class. Alas our Bulawayo club is struggling, needs more visitors.

Very nice old historical club. 1500 rand is only $93.00 a night. Pretty cheap by current standards. But I believe I would have to buy all new clothes before they would let me in.

A question for all of you Africans. In the movie Out of Africa, wasn't the club used in the movie actually in Nairobi, Kenya?

Isn't that where Commander McBragg hung out?

The club referred to in the movie is the "Muthaiga Club", still in operation at the same location and some of the scenes were filmed on site (yes).

Neat place just had a look at the website.
Nice to know something is going in that part of Town.

The reviews from people who stayed there are very good too.

It is, well worth a visit. Another venue worth seeing is Karen Blixen’s house in Karen, a suburb of Nairobi. We missed an amazing era!
You can still live it WAB! The grand age is alive and well, in chunks at least.

I do my best to do just that Kevin. I managed to steer my career through some pretty amazing locations. I’ve been all over this chunk of rock of ours and the wildest place I’ve found is Alaska. To have seen Africa when it was in that state would have been incredible.

My favorite spots in Africa are the Upper Luangwa Valley, the Zambezi Valley, and the Northern Kalahari. Not coincidentally, they are places you can still get a sense of true African wilderness.

Looks like a classy (and classic) place, and worth seeing. Unfortunately we were discouraged from traveling into the city during my visit last year (due to COVID and the recent riots). Perhaps if we're able to visit again someday.

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
