What is the BEST piece of hunting advice you've been given?

Great question @ULV!

X1 “ … get close” … isn‘t that the ultimate challenge, memorable stalk where you Outwit - Outplay & end w/ an ethical close range shot.

For me “ … don’t force the moment - take what the Bush offers.”

I have passed on mature quality trophies waiting for that “perfect moment” Waterbuck or Eland that NEVER happened. And 4/trips later, I have yet to match the Maturity/Quality of the Impala, Oryx & Black Willy I left in the bush … each return that past decision gets abit heavier.

Happy Trails

Cary on pack … all meds, boots and a complete extra set of cloths. If your duffle doesn’t show you can still hunt. Mine didn’t in Cameroon in 2016 and I had a great trip!

When you start glassing look close first not where the animal most likely is. My Ph new the area and started glassing 400-600 yards away. I spotted a bushbuck ram at 75m in thick brush, he was my 5th ram I ever took.

Don’t admire the shot … shoot again. I lost the first kudu I ever shot at, hit him twice (obviously not well) at 220m and 330m, could have shot again but my PH said “wait, he’s going down”. He didn’t go down and I lost him. Keep shooting until it’s down or you can’t see it!

The use of Nosler Partition bullets.
I followed the advice, have hardly ever used other bullets. A Sauer Drilling in .30-06 and 165/180 gr Nosler Partition was all I used during many years in bush and forest of Limpopo province, then Northern Transvaal.

Get as close as you can, then get closer.

Study your quarry and "When in doubt, make sure his lights are completely out".

Its not shopping, its hunting!!!

Remember to enjoy your surroundings.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
