.50 BMG wasn’t enough … so why not.700NE?

I know the last video was posted here of this man’s mishap with a .50BMG; but it looks like he got his hands on a .700NE

Can anyone identify the maker of that rifle?

I use a lead sled a lot - but what he is doing there is criminal. The weight is far above that recommended by the manufacturer and then straps on top of that. Absolute idiot. Note the flex at the stock head and action face as he fires. All that energy has no where else to go. A few more rounds and that rifle will be seriously damaged (if not already).

You noticed the stock flex too!

What I found funny was all the straps and weight on the cheap flimsy table; I would have bet money the legs would snap on the first round.

So why the cartridge is now/still 100 USD a piece?

In my opinion , the biggest practical double rifle caliber is the .500 Nitro Express . Out penetrates the .577 Nitro Express and the .600 Nitro Express .

I'm yet to meet ONE serious hunter , who uses a .700 Nitro Express . Most people who purchase rifles in this caliber , buy it simply because of the perceived " Coolness " factor and they just want to have one in their collection .

It's a good thing the Lead Sled was on that flimsy table that had a lot of flex to it. Had it been on a solid shooting bench, I think that rifle would have been "one and done."

I can't speak with a lot of experience on this, however, I will say that the .700 I shot weighed roughly 24 pounds. This takes it completely out of the realm of a practical hunting rifle for me.

Got it!
In my estimate there is less then 50, rifles 700NE in existance today, in the World!
They generally do not get fired.
If somebdey takes them hunting, he will test it at the range few shots, and during hunt - few shots, then these rifles go home for safe storage, and hunting stories for grand kids.

I agree, there are only a few guys I know of that are comfortable with real big bores .577 and up. The biggest issue for me is the weight. When I was at Dallas last year to get measured for an order I asked Chris Sells to try on a .577. It just weighs too much for me to lug it around during a hunt and it gets worse from there as one goes up in caliber.

Now, if I was jacked like the guy's dad in the video then I could see lugging a .577 for an elephant hunt
