This is the last .375 H & H that I’ll be listing here for sale. It is a Winchester pre-64 Model 70 with serial # in the 57XXX range. It appears to be a standard grade .375 that was completely refinished with some improvements. Stock work included an ebony fore end tip, a steel grip cap, a vacant silver oval, and re-cut checkering. The sling swivels don't look like the factory ones to me, but I'm not a pre-64 expert by any means. The wood is very nice for a factory rifle, being quarter sawn with correct grain flow and nice color too. The LOP over the vintage Winchester recoil pad is 13-1/2”.

The metal work has a checkered bolt knob, a Tilden side swing safety, a Lyman 48 (the slide is incomplete and non-functional), and a Griffin & Howe side mount with a Weaver K3. The bolt handle root has a few marks on it which should show in one of the pictures.

Price is $2,200 plus shipping.

A quick question, and this is for education purposes, and not meant to detract from this ad in anyway!

Why would one put an aftermarket safety on a model 70? Aren’t they already the gold standard?

The very early ones had a lever on top of the bolt shroud that was difficult to operate with a scope in place. The Tilden lever works like the later (and current) factory lever by hanging over the right side of the shroud.

Ok thanks! I see it now that I looked it up. That’s something I didn’t know! Beautiful rifle, well, all the ones you have up are beautiful:)

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
