Have watched a few very positive UTube reviews on these scopes. The ones I’ve seen have all been mounted on AR’s so wondering how they do on bolt action hunting rifles for game other than coyotes and raccoons. Anyone given these a go in Africa?

They do great on bolt guns. I cannot answer for Africa though.

I’ve seem them used with good success on bushpig over here.

Gizmo, what would the 4,5-18 or 2,5-25 ATN 4k Mars/ Thor Thermal retail for?

I would be hesitant to bring one over to Africa as it has so many export restrictions beyond even ITAR. If someone wanted to cause trouble for you in customs, this device would be beyond normal "sport hunting" products for temporary export. Just think carefully before deciding to bring it to Africa. In the states, it seems like the ultimate hog-killer optic day or night on a modern sporting rifle. My daughter wants to do night hog and predator hunting so I'll definitely look into getting one for her AR.

Thanks...have been wondering how they do for all around day hunting out to 200 yards or so....night time they are definitely a plus but don't relish the idea of swapping out scopes for day and night hunting. Most of the UTube videos show night hunting but not much in the daylight

Hadn't thought about that....thanks!!

The thermal scopes are a pain to bring in, but it can be done legally. The infrared optics are less of a headache, and numerous companies import them.

In the last few years we have had good support from ATN Europe, but Pulsar and Flir come directly from the US.

I would also be reluctant to travel on an airliner with one. Most customs officials will likely not notice, but the wrong one could cause a heap of trouble.

As far as swapping scopes for day and night, I’ve been doing it regularly on my pig rig, a Tikka CTR .308, alternating between the infrared and a Swarovski Z5 on QDs, and it never shifts POI enough to justify adjusting it.

Is there any data on how resistant they are to recoil 300 mag or 375H&H?

No clue as to data...

But I’ve got a buddy that has one mounted to a 458 SOCOM AR (roughly the same recoil as a trapdoor 45-70 with moderate loads.. or a typical shotgun firing 3.5” magnums)... he’s got a few hundred rounds through his and reports no problems...

To address some of the questions, first this is not a thermal. This is a digital scope with night vision capability. Once you mount it to the rifle it’s basically no different than a regular scope in terms of what you see except it’s an HD image. To use it for night time the night vision element it attached to the scope and it’s simply put in the night mode.
Recoil, yes it will handle 300 win Mag and 375 just fine. I wouldn’t suggest it for a real heavy hitter like a light rifle in Lott or 505 or something but at the end of the day it wouldn’t make since to mount this type of optic on one anyway. For instance I couldn’t see any practical reason to put a 3-14x scope on a 505 Gibbs to begin with.

Ok so this unit is not a thermal. This is an x sight. Two totally different things.
So the Thor unit is a thermal and the 4.5-18 is $3199. The Thor 2.5-25x is actually only available in the 640x480 sensor and is $4799. I have a Thor 4 4.5-18x thermal in stock. I can order and drop ship the 2.5-25x unit but I don’t have it in stock at my office.
In the X-sight I just ordered some more of the units in this thread because I’ve already sold out. I can also get the drop shipped to someone and the make several different varieties of this unit in different powers features etc....

No need to swap this. This is not a thermal and you get a full digital day image that’s much clearer than looking through traditional glass. It has a night vision capability and works great for that as well.

This week I have to set one of these up on a rifle as a demo for the ranch. I’m going to do a tutorial and I’ll post it here for everyone.

This is what it looks like in the reticle. View attachment 380672View attachment 380674

Wow.. thats some nice imagery... much better than what Im getting out of my sightmark wraith (competitor day/night scope at about the same price point)..

Next time I am out in the woods with the wraith I'll take some pics for a side by side comparison..

But right now Im questioning why I didnt got with an ATN lol..

Assume this is from the 3-14 version of the scope? Wondering what advantage the 5-20 has, if any. Don't , normally shoot past 200-250 yards and that buck is sitting at 256 yards clear as day :) Guessing that is full magnification?

I think just more magnification, like any other scope?

14x is way more than I need for the hunting I do.
