SOUTH AFRICA: The Curse Is Lifted: 2018 Group Hunt

I spoke to Laura at D&L CHB this evening. After two years and four months my 2018 trophies have cleared customs in Chicago. Looks like I will have the crate in the next couple of days. Then as Paul Harvey use to say “stay tuned for the rest of the story”

I actually spoke to the guy who is to take care of my import today as well! They are supposed to get everything from my 2018 and 2019 safaris on a ship soon!

Was this by design or were there some issues that caused delays? Did you have the taxidermy work done in RSA?

Be sure to have your batteries charged up for your drill! Zillions of screw in the crates. Also, 50% chance the screws will take a bit you don't have and you'll need to run to Home Depot or Lowes. :giggle:

Was no by design at all. The rest of the story to come! Those crates do indeed have a lot of screws.

I had a 2019 Oct.hunt and I received my crate two moths ago but they were only D&P but two were cites animals and a buffalo.

Well the freight forwarders would not have delivered my crate until next week sometime so I drove out the the airport and picked it up myself. Opening the top of the crate was a little suspenseful as there was a gash in the side panel. However, everything was in great shape!

Happy you have them back! Thanks for sharing!

I’ll bet that gash is from a fork lift. Had one just like it on my first shipment years ago, actually two of them.

Glad your trophies made it in good shape!

Yep my lioness crate a few years back had one twice that size and I was really concerned that the full body mount would be highly damaged but luck was with me on that one as well and no damage.

Glad you finally got your animals back. It was a long time coming!

Great report and glad your trophies showed up in good shape. What took so long?! I would be a nervous wreck!

Quartered Hippo Guys! The staff at the resort was buzzing because they knew that they would be getting some of the meat.
I had hoped to partake of some myself but my PH forgot the tenderloins the next morning when we departed at 0400 hours. So that was a BIG disappointment.
We went back out to watch the skin getting loaded which took seven men to do it.

And note the cows never stopped watching what was going on!
You didn’t miss much on the hippo meat. Not my fav.

Living life like a lion for 1 day is better than living life like a jackal for 100 years.
