In this season of giving I am here to ask the AH community to help with a very worthy project that is close to my heart.

Johnny Vivier a great PH, long time friend as well as generous supporter of our site who has recently opened an independent living home for handicapped adults in South Africa. He gave the land and much of his own sweat to make this project, Pathways Residence, into a reality over the course of two long years.

Johnny Vivier and his wife Bev, who is the director of the non profit organization have a 23 year old daughter, Kelly, who resides there and has special needs. They have always been great supporters and advocates for the special needs community in South Africa since the system to educate and care for the disabled over there is broken or non existent. As I said it is a project that is close to my heart as my wife and I have a very sweet daughter who is 20 years old with cerebral palsy and developmental disability, who will never be able to live on her own.

Their goal is to create a future for all the folks that are handicapped and to keep them out of most of the institutions in South Africa where they get badly treated or abused.

I would like to appeal to the generous members of AH to help support this great cause by donating during this holiday season and beyond, I will match your donations with my personal donation up to US$2000. If we could match or beat this amount it would mean a great deal to these truly special young adults, to myself and to Johnny and Bev Vivier. I also hope that it would give you great satisfaction knowing that you are directly helping to protect and make a better life for those who are truly the most vulnerable and in need.

Bev has set up a Paypal account to receive donations for the Pathways Residence through the internet, which is very easy to use by just providing her PayPal email address which is:
bev@johnnyviviersafaris.co.za

Click on the Donate button below for a direct link to the fundraising payment PayPal page:

When donating, please indicate that you are from AfricaHunting.com so that we can be sure to match your contribution. Every donation counts, if 100 members gave just $20 we would reach our goal, if some decided to give more that we would beat our goal! To exceed our goal would be my holiday wish!!

If you can help by contributing money that's great but you can also help by spreading the word by posting this on twitter, facebook and other forums to get the word out to your family, friends and fellow hunters who are known for their giving spirit and willingness to take care of their own.

At this time they have some specific needs of R48,000 for a Consent of Use certificate and R38,000 for a back up generator (that's about $10,000 US). I have included some pictures as well as correspondence that I have had with Johnny and Bev that provides more details than I have included here, if you are interested to know more you can also check out their website at www.pathways-residence.co.za. They have a Company Registration Number: 2008/021183/08 and also a Public Benefit Organization Tax No: 930029604.

Please feel free to post in this thread, we look forward to hearing from you and don't be shy to let us know if you have donated!

Thank you and Happy Holidays to everyone on AH!

Jerome

Hey! hello Jerome and Mrs. J,

Hope you are doing well ~ as always it was great to see you.

I know it is kind of short notice, but I am contacting a few of my Safari buddies on a personal note, that have Pioneered the safari business with me for many years now and I just wanted to show you, what my wife Bev and I have done for the handicapped young adults, which includes our daughter Kelly who is now 23 years old ..... holy smoke we ARE getting old yikes!!!

Just very briefly ~ We have donated 2.2 acres of our land to Pathways Pretoria, where the 1st Pathways Residence is almost complete ~ As you can see below, we have one final drive taking place to make this dream a reality ~ It has taken us parents 2 hard years, but Oh! we are so close Jerome .... we can smell it!!!

So with no pressure Jerome, we will never know if we don't ask ~ but if you would like to pledge a donation towards our goal, then let me know please. Really anything will do. Your consideration will be greatly appreciated Jerome.

See all the info below ~ It is for a great cause and the next time you are here in RSA, Bev and I would love to show you, what the future is for all the folks that are handicapped and that is to keep them out of most of the institutions here where they get badly treated or abused!!

You be sure to take care and please send our best regards to the family Jerome!

From your friends Johnny, Bev and Kelly Vivier

Hi Jerome and Mrs. J,

Thank you very much for your support. I have handed your email over to our financial director Carol Carlsson and she will look into Pathways Residence being set up with a PayPal fundraising payment option.

We raised a total of R 101700.00 on our Two Oceans Fundraiser.

It will be greatly appreciated if you can rally the other members of AfricaHunting.com to pledge donations as well.

Funds are still needed to finish off a few things like a washing line and gravel in the driveway and to set up a vegetable garden so the youngsters can grow their own veggies and when there is surplus to sell their vegetables to generate an income.

I have forwarded your email to Carol, so she can let you know when she has managed to set up the PayPal option.

Have a look at Pathways Pretoria web site : www.ptapathways.co.za

The school, the studio (the young adults life skills center) and the residence are linked. You will get a better insight into the vision of Pathways.

We look forward to hearing from you,
Take care,
Johnny and Bev

Hey! Jerome,

Hope all is well with you and Mrs. J

We are all fine this side and busy as heck ~ I'll be leaving tomorrow for 3 weeks on safari with various hunters.

We have the best news for you!!! The young adults all moved into the Pathways Residence 2 weeks ago and things are going like a steam train .... full steam ahead ... yippee!! All the kids are having an absolute blast which is soooo nice to see Jerome! After 2 years of hard work we have finally reached the end of this tunnel and yip! the young adults are in the house .... thank the Lord for his guidance!!

As far as the job being over in regards to finalizing all our plans for the residence and making it a strong foundation .... we are far from over and in actually fact Jerome, we will never be over as there are many residences that will follow our lead.

I know that Bev is busy as we speak with the PayPal idea that you so brilliantly came up with, we were just waiting for you to get settled in Namibia ~ Bev will be contacting you soon and during my absence, so work together with Bev on getting everything up and going, thanks a million Jerome!

We know and are all very grateful that you pledged a personal contribution of US$2000 and that your plan through the PayPal, was to challenge the folk out there on your site to see who also wanted to contribute towards this great cause Jerome ..... Good luck with that Jerome every little bit will go a longggg, longgggg way we can assure you of that!!

Bev knows more about what we need now and in the future but just out of my head I can think of a few things that are still a major expense to the residence ~ At this very moment we have a, it is called a Consent of Use for the Residence filed with the town council, that is gonna cost around R48K by the time all is done and signed. We are also in desperate need for a back up generator of no less than 32kva that will cost R38K after all is connected and done.

Any kind of donations that come in Jerome, no matter how small, will help towards the Groceries, Fuel and upkeep and general maintenance of the House and Bus.

Bev will be able to supply some more pics to you should you need more Jerome but in the meantime I will mail through a few today.

Let me get this email off to you so that you know what is cooking Jerome ~ Once again I want to thank you and Mrs. J from the bottom of mine and Bev's hearts and from all the kids and their parents of the very 1st, but most certainly not the last Pathways Residence for all that you are doing and trying to do, to change the lives of these challenged young and very special people ~ the big boss is watching you guys and all good things come to those who give!!!

We appreciate you and your dedicated efforts tremendously .... Pamwe Chete!!

You and Bev raise a million Jerome ....... Hee! Hee!

Cherioooo for now Bud,

Your friends as always,
Johnny & Bev

Thank you Bob. I will make sure that your donation is matched!

Just sent a small donation.

Right now I'm recovering from my own losses but I undertake to donate 20% of the daily rates for the next hunt I book through AH to this very worthy cause.

There is an offer someone about to book should take as an incentive.
Thanks Chris.

Thank you Chris. Please keep us posted. Also let me know if there is anything that I can do to help promote a certain offer that you have thus helping the sale of it through AH in order to benefit this cause.

On our first visit to Africa we saw quite a lot of poverty in Botswana and Zimbabwe and seeing the good fortune our daughters have we sponsored a couple of World Vision kids in the region, it seemed the least we could do.

Seeing the plight of Johnny and Bev for their daughter and others in the same circumstances, I realise how fortunate we are here in Australia to have so many services available to us.

Such a great cause in the country where it all started for most of us; as a safari hunting community a donation to should be well within the means of mist big game hunters. I've done what I can.

Thanks Jerome for highlighting the Pathways Residence; my heart goes out to the many families who have to face these challenges. Kudos to you all for the love and strength you bring to the world.

Cheers to Johnny, Bev, Jerome and all the good people associated with this project. Dan
