Limpopo versus Karoo Hunting

The way he has explained it to me is we will hunt the Karoo for a few days and then go to the coast for the remainder of the hunt.
The scenery is absolutely gorgeous in both places but not what my mental picture of “Africa” is. The Limpopo seems to be close to what I imagine Africa to be like.
I agree that the game may come easier in the Limpopo.

The mental picture most newcomers have of Africa in reality only represents a fraction of the typical environment. Africa is only fractionally smaller than North and South America combined and as a country South Africa has the 3rd highest bio diversity in the world with the Eastern Cape accounting for most of it. I know what you mean when you say you have a mental picture of what Africa is but there’s fewer places where you’ll see more of Africa and it’s beauty than in the Karoo. By the name of my company, you can tell I can’t exactly be impartial but I have a lifelong love affair with the Karoo.

I couldn't agree more! When I hunted the East Cape I hadn't planned on it, but I certainly don't regret it! They can be a VERY fun hunt!!!

I had no idea the East Cape was so diverse!! I know Africa is twice the size of the US which obviously allows for biodiversity. I guess mental image of Africa includes plains, Acacia trees, and scrub. I dont think I can Make a bad choice here but I cant seem to make a decision.

In my opinion, ease of getting there is very important unless you have flexible vacation time at work. Personally I would rather have as few stops as possible, which would normally mean Limpopo - a very long flight though. If you wanted to break it up with a layover, then I think Namibia is far superior to anything South Africa offers. That's not an option you want though, which is fine.

I like Limpopo for hunting fenced areas because it feels so much larger when you are inside. In the wide open spaces you can see a long way and can picture the fence.

I do not have flexible time off, Especially now with covid.
I will need 10-12 days off to make this hunt happen so that makes the Limpopo appealing.

If I hunt the Karoo; the connecting flight from Jo to Port E isn’t long or expensive but that’s time nonetheless.

I’m not a fan of the fences but like to hunt where I can see for sure.

I haven’t looked into a Namibia hunt but I will now.

There are many Africas Andrew: savanna, jungle, arid, bush, swamps, etc. I have lived here all my life and experienced from 'Cape to Cairo', but the quintessential Africa you seem to be referring to is the bush, like Limpopo and the low veld in Zimbabwe. That is buffalo and elephant country. It is all special in it's own way, all very different, so do it all!

Kevin, I wish i could see Africa from Cape to Cairo! I’m sure you have seen some beautiful sights and experiences some great hunts! It would take many many trips for me to accomplish!
However, you’re a spot on with what I’m picturing. I think the Limpopo makes sense as a first trip and then see other areas.
I’ve always wanted to hunt buffalo in the Okavango delta of Botswana just like you see on TV shows but I doubt that ever happens. I’m open to hunting anywhere just to be honest!

Having hunted both in the past 3-4 years, if I was rifle hunting plains game I'd head to the Karoo and EC in a heartbeat. However, bowhunting I'd opt for the Limpopo.
