Kimber Caprivi 458 Lott weight and recoil

You’d better get the sissy pad and much more. I have one and have only shot it once from the bench and wow it kicks. Planning an Edwards Recoil Reducer if I decide to keep it.
Yeah if the recoil is too much for me my first option will definitely be a recoil reducer or just adding weight to it to reduce the recoil. haha ok I will take your advice and get that sissy pad! Is yours scoped? And what sort of loads are you running through it? Apart from the recoil are you happy with it?

For anyone interested, maybe @Boomstick! or @Bullthrower338 my Kimber Caprivi arrived today. Super happy with it so far, I pulled it apart and gave it a good clean, the glass bedding on this rifle in my opinion is fantastic for a factory off the shelf rifle. scope is mounted in a set of leupold quick detach rings. Comes in at exactly 4.2kg with the rings and scope or in your world 9.26 pounds, again in my opinion still too light for a 458 Lott but I will see how I go with the recoil. I cycled a full magazine of ammo and it cycles and feeds perfectly, the bolt is as smooth as silk, the trigger is maybe a bit too light for a DG rifle or maybe its just because I'm used to heavy Ruger triggers. But all in all so far I am really happy with it. Off to the range tomorrow with my new 1" thick sissy pad to put it through its paces.

Hell yeah! Beautiful rifle brother!

Very handsome rifle!
I fired my PH’s CZ 458 Lott standing and honestly I was surprised at the felt recoil! Not as bad IMO as a Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby I shot. Again JMO! But personally both are more than I can comfortably handle. It’s not the first shot that’s an issue to me, but if a follow up is needed, it takes too long for me to bolt and get back on target.
But then I’m a small guy and getting “long in the tooth”!:ROFLMAO:

The felt recoil is so much more from the bench than shooting offhand that I wonder why guys punish themselves, not to mention possibly developing a flinch.

I suggest a Caldwell Lead Sled for sighting in and developing loads. Well worth the $$$

I own one and use it for light rifles developing loads. I like my stocks that I currently have on my bigger calibers and don’t want to risk them. Guys punish themselves regularly, some are married their whole adult lives. A few minutes at the bench I can tolerate and not get a flinch, I still flinch at the thought of my ex wife.

I do lots of bench shooting because I like experimenting with different loads. I have found that you need to set up the bench with you sitting straight up similar to how you shoot off sticks. Wear elbow pads so you done chafe them sliding with recoil on the bench. Head as vertical as possible. Seems to help me a lot. An additional benefit is it seemed to improve my shooting off sticks since my position is almost identical.

Yeah but you know what that means, it's a good excuse to buy yourself a big rifle and spend plenty of time practicing with it. I am sure it will be quite some time before I can shoot a 458 as well as I can shoot my 375 but I look forward to the learning process because it means lots of shooting (y)

What scope have you got on your Lott?

I did a bit of gunsmithing on mine over the weekend (y) shes just over 9.5lbs now. It's starting to feel heftier, I'm also considering finding another decent 1-4 scope that's a bit heavier than the one I have mounted on it now and get the weight up to about 9.7 pounds, I will be happy with that weight.

I have an EOTech Vudu 1-6 mounted on mine.

Just got to say that is one lovely rifle that you've got there! Lovely stock too! Caprivis do look good, and this one's no exception! (y)

Though it’s just a 375 the LOP on Win Safari Express is just over 14 inches I have a 15 inch LOP so I slipped over my existing recoil pad a slip on Pachmayer Decelerator pad to give me the required length. Not that I had issues with recoil before it is very noticeably lower almost non existent. I could be both extra pad and better fit but the 375 is less recoil than my 270. I put the brown pad on and it’s not to bad in the looks department.

What size slip on did you use?
