If you could shoot one animal out of the big five which one would it be? I’ve been pondering this for a while and I think maybe an elephant. I think back in the olden days of having a big Tasker with 100 pounds of ivory to each side . About 20-25 yards away facing for a frontal brain shot. That just sounds so exciting. Or, maybe a big black or blonde mained lion of about 450 to 500 pounds 50 yard shot and then he disappears, Then you have to walk in after him anticipating a charge, that also would get your adrenaline up. How about a leopard you knock him out of a tree over the bait and have to go in after him with a shotgun stuffed with double 0 or triple 0 buckshot . Although Capstick says number one buck is better than double or triple 0 . I don’t know, just wondering what other members think.

Elephant.

But instead of a 100 lb trophy, I would hunt a tuskless or management bull, and then hunt a lion also(y)

I’ve taken leopard and buffalo so far so if I have to choose only one more it would have to be elephant. From what I’ve heard from members who have gone on elephant hunts, it’s quite the experience.

Lion in TZ, Zambia, or Zim

Elephant for sure!

Buffalo, lion would be a close second

Hard choice. I’d lean toward elephant. But man they are all so majestic and full of mystique. Hope to see them all someday even if I can’t afford to shoot anything but a camera snapshot.

Easy...elephant hunting is addictive...

Have been blessed to be able to hunt and be successful on buffalo, and hopefully will do so again. Planning a trip for elephant and hippo for 2020. IMHO having the opportunity to hunt and hopefully be successful on elephant will top my experiences with buffalo...and any other species on the planet that can legally be hunted.

Mark me down for Ele as well.

Elephant has been the most challenging, rewarding and emotionally draining hunt of my career. Elephant hands down.

To put it bluntly with the lion and leopard wishing for a charge you really haven't a clue......not being nasty but are you in cuckoo land......and am not being rude but....and please take what capstick said with a pinch of salt....:D Cheers:

I didn’t say WISHING for a charge, I just wanted to add more excitement to the article because it does happen sometimes .But I understand where you’re coming from.

Having been blessed and fortunate enough to hunt and take all of the big 5 except for Rhino, I guess that would be my top pick. Not because I have not been able to complete my Big 5, but because it is something I have never been able to do. All of these dangerous game hunts have been special in their own way, with plenty of memories and experiences for each to qualify them as my favorite. I have been charged by buff, chased a wounded leopard into the night, been challenged by the stalk of a lion that was not on bait, and followed elephant through the mopani way too close for my nerves at 10 yards.

If you put a gun to my head and said name just one, that you have hunted, it would have to be my lion, stalked in the bush, and shot on top of a huge granite rock where he fell as he laid. That is the hunt memory I fall asleep to more than any other hunt.

Lion. Hunted in the depths of the Tanzanian wilderness.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
