If somebody came up with a Diesel-electric hybrid in a truck, similar to how modern locomotives operate, I'd be on that like a duck on a June bug. That would be insane power coupled with insane fuel economy. Imagine running a small Diesel, maybe 2-3 liters displacement, at 800-1000 RPMs, hooked to a series of 4 electric motors turning out 100-150 ft-lbs of torque each. And that still wouldn't be as efficient as a modern locomotive.

But it will still never beat the sound and the fury of a V8, V10, or V12.

For some reason it seems car/truck manufacturers aren’t really doing this. There were very few cars with this type of set up. I can only think about two, Fisker Karma and Opel Ampera. Don’t really understand why. These hybrid systems are also gaining momentum in marine industry. I too reckon cars should be next. Funny how you say small Diesel - 2-3 litres displacement. On this side of the pond most (not me) consider that a large displacement.

A lot of carmakers in the supercar market are doing this type of "hybrid" system, although not with diesel engines. Namely, Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, BMW, and Acura have all come out with these type of cars in recent years. However, they are far less practical than the aforementioned vehicle.

Non of these do, in all the vehicles you mention combustion engine drives wheels and is supplemented by auxiliary electric engine. The system we’re talking about is where combustion engine is essentially an electric power generator only. I’ve driven all of the above with the exception of McLaren. BMW was total crap, the rest oh yes, I want more.

Then you sir are a very lucky man. I was under the impression that the BMW used its engine to power the electric motors. I also think that the McLaren can do it albeit at a much lower performance level for city type driving but I will need to look into that again.

I do think that running electric and gas motors in tandem makes a lot more sense though.

Indeed I am. McLaren, Porsche and BMW (i8) can be operated in electric only mode but at limited output and with limited range. The system where combustion engine works as a power generator has lots of advantages. Gearboxes can be done away with or greatly simplified, engine can be optimised to run at particular speeds with response lag not being an issue and be made very efficient (response lag is one of i8’s 3 cylinder gizmo’s problems) and unlike with purely electric car, range is not an issue. While the fuel consumption of the supercars drivetrains was not a main design consideration it very much was for the i8. In real world usage and travelling quickly on highways and I do mean quickly like 200kmh (yes there are places where you get to travel like that). The i8 with it’s 1.5l excuse for an engine had the same consumption as my wonderfully responsive 5l V8. Literally the same.

My old F-250 had a 7.3L Diesel. That's large displacement. ;)

Indeed. Things are a bit different now. Latest Mercedes Actros, a semi trailer truck has a 7.7L engine.

When I listen to the majority of the Dems running for POTUS, I have to wonder if the people that elected them are all on some sort of mood altering drug.
It reminds me of circus clowns pretty bad when 90 percent of the population is smarter then them

My F250 was 2002 Model. I only got rid of it when it reached about 250,000 miles and started leaking, as older vehicles tend to do when gaskets start to dry out and crack. Plus, I had moved back to the city, sold my place in the country, and just didn't have need of a 3/4-ton pickup truck anymore.

Trump to make first state visit to UK in June
https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/23/politics/trump-state-visit-uk-gbr-intl/index.html

If Teresa May has resigned before Trump's arrival, then she probably knew or possibly approved the UK's involvement in the plan to keep Trump from becoming president. Brexit will be the reason she goes, but that is just the handy excuse.

There has been a cold relationship between May and Trump since Trump took office. The reason? Trump knew and May knew he knew.

If May is still in office, watch the body language and communications between the two. It will be pure comedy because May knows Trump is about to expose the plot.

We live in entertaining times. Enjoy the show!

Can't make it work.:(

You can't make this stuff up.

The hypocrisy on the left is mind numbing, or possibly it is just stupidity. Evidently this is what happens when you sleep your way into politics.

Google had an interesting one. While investigating allegations that women are underpaid they realised that in fact it was men who were paid less and as result had their compensations increased to be on par with female coworkers.

THE SECRETARY OF ENERGY
THE SECRETARY OF HOMELAND SECURITY
THE DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE
THE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY

SUBJECT: Agency Cooperation with Attorney General's Review of Intelligence Activities Relating to the 2016 Presidential Campaigns

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby direct the following:
Section 1. Agency Cooperation.
The Attorney General is currently conducting a review of intelligence activities relating to the campaigns in the 2016 Presidential election and certain related matters. The heads of elements of the intelligence community, as defined in 50 U.S.C. 3003(4), and the heads of each department or agency that includes an element of the intelligence community shall promptly provide such assistance and information as the Attorney General may request in connection with that review.
Sec. 2. Declassification and Downgrading. With respect to any matter classified under Executive Order 13526 of December 29, 2009 (Classified National Security Information), the Attorney General may, by applying the standard set forth in either section 3.1(a) or section 3.1(d) of Executive Order 13526, declassify, downgrade, or direct the declassification or downgrading of information or intelligence that relates to the Attorney General's review referred to in section 1 of this memorandum. Before exercising this authority, the Attorney General should, to the extent he deems it practicable, consult with the head of the originating intelligence community element or department. This authority is not delegable and applies notwithstanding any other authorization or limitation set forth in Executive Order 13526.

Sec. 3. General Provisions.
(a) Nothing in this memorandum shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(b) This memorandum shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) The authority in this memorandum shall terminate upon a vacancy in the office of Attorney General, unless expressly extended by the President.

(d) This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

(e) The Attorney General is authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.

DONALD J. TRUMP

And so it begins!

This is going to be a real circus and not much, if anything, will come of it. There are way too many skeletons in way too many closets and no one dares to say or do anything. If one goes down they all go down because whoever goes down will burn everyone else and we all know that ain't gonna happen. There have been too many of these charades in the past and they all end up the same way. Someone may resign or retire to escape prosecution, there will be a lot of hot air flying around but no substance and very little, if any, change. It's politics, Folks, and we know how that works.

I agree that it is going to be a circus. I also agree that way too many people have way too many skeletons in their closets.

This time is going to be different however. We have been acclimatized to the DOJ announcing investigations and giving updates for years. That's why people like Hannity, Bongino, Sundance, Ingraham, etc. have been so wrong, saying nothing is happening for the last two years.

The Trump administration and DOJ changed the paradigm back to the old days. Sessions, Rosenstein and a great team at DOJ, did an amazing job of setting the table for Barr. Yes, I said Sessions and Rosenstein did a great job. Updates have not been given. Instead we will find out when indictments are handed out, arrests are made or guilty pleas signed off on.

My prediction is that individuals in the FBI, DOJ, CIA, State Department, White House and Clinton campaign will be convicted. How countries like the UK, Australia, Malta, Estonia, Ukraine and Russia handle their culpable individuals will be interesting to watch. Also don't be surprised if the investigations go back to Clinton Foundation pay to play and the Hillary server. The OIG Horowitz investigation is wrapping up. This deals with FBI and DOJ only. Huber, Durham, and Liu already have referrals on an assortment of cases. Things are happening this time.

If you follow fraud and money laundering on a global basis, you will know that the worlds swamp has already started to drain. Business and National leaders have been indicted and are going to jail. This will start happening in America before long. Don't be surprised for this to hit the hallowed halls of Congress. You might ask yourself why so many Republican congressmen retired prior to the 2018 election.

Two and a half years ago I would have agreed with you that nothing would happen regarding the swamp with Trump as President. Over the last year and a half it is obvious that Trump is indentured to no one. He campaigned on draining the swamp and he is draining the swamp. This will be epic.

Could I be wrong? Of course, but I really don't think so. Set back and enjoy. You are about to see a once in a 240 year event in your lifetime!

But why has Trump asserted executive privilege to have the unredacted Mueller report barred from release if it supposedly vindicates him?
