Just when you think you've seen every rifle ever made! Sure enjoyed seeing this........................Vashper.............I'm guessing that says 15 gram bullet.....? so that would be 231 grains....I guess it was easier to rebbl these instead of bore them out...........HWL......are you going to do a chamber cast or slug bbl before using? Thanks for post.....FWB

sorry, what means "to rebbl"?

The answer is "no"!

I rely on finnish craftsmanship.

The rifle is made by Sako, has contemporary proove marks and the barrel looks perfect.

Sako still makes ammunition and cases, and I ordered both.

Whatever comes first will be taken ...and shot.

In autumn, I would like to go to finland, hunting the very finnish way, together with a Sako L46 in 7x33.

Do you know the exact designation of this cartridge?

I found 9,3x54R, 9,3x53R, 9,3x53, 9x53R?....is this all the same or someting different?

Sako made cases and ammunition in 9,3x53R.

I misunderstood.............I thought you had some confusion regarding the correct ammo, hence the chamber cast question..........good shooting..........FWB

My gunsmith checked it and it is an 9,3x53 R Finnish.

The auction I bought it, labeled it as a "9,3x54R", witch is wrong.

You can see the label on the picture I posted.

HWL, I asked the guys living in Finland. They shoot Russian cartridges from the Finnish Mosin rifles and in caliber 7,62, and in 9,3. No problem. Although, of course, branded cartridges Sako - it's good.

Are these russian cases reloadable made from brass, or from steel?...boxer or berdan primer?

HWL

Only comrade Hiram Berdan. :( And crimped.
7.62 mm - the widest range, may be steel, may be brass, bullets too - may be red brass or bimetal. You should go to the store with a neodymium magnet in your pocket.
By the way, some rounds have a bullet diameter of 7.85 (308) based on the European model, for example these:

9х53 may also be any (old - tombac bullet, new - may be steel, brass in my opinion, all copper), but the problem is that calibre are rare. What exactly is in the safe of the local shop - even the sellers themselves may not know.
So let's buy Sako - for reliability, and then experiment.

Thanks for all the information....

Berdan primers are no problem, whether crimped or not, we have the tools to deal with.

But steel cases, I can not reload.

...still waiting for my Sako components....

If you do reloading, I would have just bought brasses for the 7.62 Mosin from the Norma or SB and would expand case muzzle to 9.3. The casing is the same, only the muzzle is wider. It is better to expand with rotation, on a lathe (they tell so).
I would bring you a handful of Mosin copper brasses (I'll be in Munich in a couple of weeks, Inshallah), but we have a ban on the import-export of any brasses :(

But we can drink a glas of beer ,... a "Maß" (1Liter) in Bavaria....

Hope to see you....

:)
I would like to, but in this case I will be tied to the team, it is a trip to the mountain skiing, without stopping in Bavaria, through Garmisch somewhere in Austria or even further.

Knife from Hofbrauhaus :)

Today, I brought home a unicorn.... a unicorn at least for me.....

May be, in Finland, this is/was a common rifle, but I had never seen one her in town.

It is a Mosin Nagant, made or converted at Sako Riihimäki, 1943

Expect of a few dents in the stock it looks like new....

The cartridge is a 9,3x54R, the russian military cartridge 7,42x53R, opend up to 9,3 mm.

What to hunt with? finish moose, pigs, deer,?

Very nice rifle.

I bet Lapua makes the best 7.62x53R brass. Lots of shops have it in stock in Finland - I have no clue about other countries.

The boys expand the cartridge case muzzle of the 7.62 even before .375 and .420, about that way -- so up to 9.3 is no problem at all. The expander is made of wheel bolt :) Why complicate?

What ammunition is generally available in a russian gun store?

Is it possible for a guest to buy these ammunition in russian gun stores?

What are the requirement for a russian citizen to buy hunting ammunition?

Interesting find.

I guess it is a way of making different sporting rifles and chamberings out of military surpluss rifles.

The Australians and New Zealanders certainly did quite a lot converting .303 Lee enfields into different chamberings.

.22-303
.25-303
.270-303
And I think even .35-303

Scrummy
