I live in Jackson, MS.
Where is the closest place to have my stuff shipped from Africa next year.
My trip is July, 2012.
these are likely the closest cities in order:
New Orleans?
Atlanta?
Houston?
Dallas?

BRICKBURN,

Sport hunted trophies arriving in the US have to be cleared through a USF&W "Designated" port office.
Here is a link to USF&W Wildlife Inspection Offices--> Wildlife Inspection Offices
Remember... "Designated" is the key word.

well, looked at the list and Atlanta, New Orleans, and Houston are all listed as "designated".
Atlanta is not a seaport since it is inland. So, assuming you could only use "air freight" there?????

Am I right, then, to assume that I can choose New Orleans to ship my stuff to?
That'd be just one more good excuse to take a 2.5 hr trip to eat awesome food.

Charlotte if by container, great prices on LTC shipments, better than Houston.

Savage Hunter,
I think that part of your question you will have to direct to your shipping agent in Africa.
They should be able to tell you if "The Big Easy" is an option or not. I would bet it is but, don't take my word on it.

I should have expanded further on my comment. My understanding was that the closest "port" for you would be Miami. I am under the impression that the trophies sent by sea cargo arrive in either New York or Miami, then they go through customs and are put on a ground carrier (DHL, etc) and are shipped to your home. If you fly them in, that is a different bird all together.

Miami is about 16 hour drive for me.
Atlanta is about 6
Houston about 6
New Orleans about 2.5 hrs

I had assumed, possibly in error, that since New Orleans was a fairly big seaport, that they could be shipped by sea there and I could pick them up there myself and save the DHL shipping portion of the charge.
