300 win mag 180 grain Swift Scirocco

This is Hodgons reloading center. Follow their steps of picking cartridge, bullet weight and powder. It will give you a starting point. Work up and use caution looking for signs of too much pressure. That should get you going.

Go on line and see if nick Harvey’s manual has the loading. I think H4831sc is equivalent to one of the Australian powders.
I think H powders (stress think) are Australian powders that are renamed for the North American market.
Go to sporting shooters website and get details for Nick Harvey.
Or try website adi - oz powders that I’m talking about are designed AR2xxx etc

Here's a table showing some ADI-Hodgdon powder equivalents

You can go to hodgdonreloading as gillettehunter suggested and get their data for the 180 gr 300 WM and the powders you're interested in. The Scirocco bullet is considered a conventional jacketed design so shouldn't be any issues. Start 5-10 % below max and work up.

I have a somewhat older Swift loading manual. Here's what I see for H4831:

H4831: Min: 70.2gr Max: 75.5gr manual lists 2702fps / 2982fps frespectively

There isn't any information for H1000 in my manual. I would think it a bit too slow for a 180gr bullet anyway. If you can get a good load with H4831SC, I'd sure like to hear the specs. I tried to get them to fly and was lucky to hit Arizona with them.

I don't know, but that's a good question. If you start at the bottom end and work your way up, I'd be surprised if you had any issues.

I loaded Sciroccos and the II’s exactly the same in my 300 RUM. But sage advice Phil gives, not all rifles handle things the same. Best to use caution and work up.

Load them both the same. Remember the Scirocco bullets like jump for better accuracy. I loaded some the other day for my daughters 257R and they were not shooting well. Came home and rechecked the seating on them and they were long. Pushed them deeper(I never crimp rifle bullets) and reshot and a small cloverleaf group. I do not crimp 150gr ones in my 308w, 30-06 and 300win mag. I do not crimp any in any of my other mags either and have not had trouble.
Seat them deep and push them fast.

I think I'll start with H4831sc with the bullets .050 off the lands. Planning on shooting a 10 shot ladder in .2 grain increments to the max charge over a chrony.

I did my loads a bit different. Since they are costly bullets and since it is a hunting load I want as much speed(with accuracy) as I can get. I also found they tend to group well when pushed fast.
SO for those reasons I take the book max of 2-4 of the fastest powder loads and test them. I have spoken with Swift at the SCI convention 2 years in arrow and got the same answer. There loads are on the conservative side. I have loaded A-Frames and Scirrocco bullets for 11 different cartridges and never had a pressure problem. I have used loads from gun mags that use more powder than the Swift books. I have loads that shot so much better but were 2-3grs over book and Swift told me (off the record) that they were just fine. Also other people on the internet shot the same load and no problems.

My 338win mag A-Frame load is 2grs over book but I found it was a common load for others. It also shot quite a bit better than the max book load.

So I would just load up 2-4 different powders that show max speed and test them . I have also found that seating them deeper(more than .050) also helps. It helps accuracy and also help keep pressures down. My 257W have more than 1/4" jump(that is correct) and prints a tiny group as long as I do my part.

It is you money so do as you like.

Care to share your .300WM load? I've got a bunch of these bullets sitting in the garage taking up space. I failed miserably to find anything more accurate than being able to hit Arizona and that was dependent on not being close to a border.

Interesting about max loads - usually we have back off a little to achieve great accuracy.

DrRay--Not so with all copper bullets and the Nosler AB bullets. They like and NEED jump. Other bullets I can agree that often close to the rifling is better.
Phoenix Phill---I do not load the 180's I use the 150's SC bullets and the 165gr (because they do not make a 150gr) A-frames. So I have no data for the 180 gr stuff. Having used them in different calibers/cartridges I could give you my educated guess as to what I would load. Also load to book(swift book) length and if poor accuracy load shorter.

ONE IMPORTANT thing is to not shoot them AFTER shooting reg alloy jacketed bullets. Start with a super clean barrel just as you need for Barnes bullets. That means NO #9 as it does nothing. Here is what I do. Wipe-out and let it set a few hours and patch. Then Sweets7.62 or Barnes CR-10 and patch. Repeat IF needed. Even use a plastic brush on bad bores. Then Butches Bore Shine or Tetra-Gun or one of the Montana products. If not going to shoot soon the some oil. I use Tetra-Gun or Kano Kriol oil. Then shoot the pure copper bullets and if you do not shoot regular bullets you do not need to repeat this often. I have a 7-08 with approx. 200 rounds of Barnes thru it without cleaning and it still shoots little tiny groups. However if you shoot any regular bullets then redo the procedure.
Actually I usually do it whenever I clean no matter what I shoot. After you do this awhile it become easy routine. BUT whatever you do forget about #9 if you want a clean bore. Just leave the bottle open so it smells nice in your work area.

IMR 4831 has always been first start with 300 Win Mag with 180’s. I have a high node of 74.0 and a good low node of 71.5 with WLR primer in WW cases.
