Yes, The Cart is in Front of the Horse!

Ahem! Only you multi-millionaires who hunt at you know where can afford those rifles! :)

:E Rofl: :E Happy:
Ha ha ha ha ha! That was awesome!
That has to qualify for wise crack of the week!

Good stuff, look forward to seeing the horse! (y):S Horse Shit:

450-400 Nitro Express with 300gr Barnes (for small game :) ).
It's those Texas jack rabbits that need culling. Perfect caliber for that!

When does the rifle get to you?

They are. I will shoot them in a Boddington Buffalo Ruger No 1.

Excellent choice. I'm sure you will enjoy them and the performance they'll deliver.
I have used this year a Ruger No. 1 Tropical in 450-400 NE loaded with Hornady SP 300 gr (0.411" - 405 Win.) on a warthog and a kudu. It worked amazingly, but I should limit the velocity in the future to only 2,200 fps. At 2,300 fps the only bullet that did not pass through and I managed to recover from the kudu lost 1/2 of the mushroom.

Nice!

Do you know what the retained weight was for that recovered Hornady bullet?

Nice thing about the Barnes is you don't have to worry about running them too fast in this cartridge.

I have just weighted the bullet: 204 gr.

Hey, the good news is that if I pushed it at 2,400 fps it's a perfect varmint bullet! No jackrabbit or coyote can survive that. :sneaky:

68% weight retention is really not at all bad for a conventional two-piece bullet.

Ought to be great for deer at that speed.

I'm guilty of buying dies for three rifles before I actually owned them 35Whelen 300 Win Mag and 404Jeff all because I just happened to read a few posts on these calibers so AH is to blame

How someone gets the cartridges/dies/bullets/brass is generally an interesting story. I've had to get a rifle or two because of some unanticipated acquisition of them. Some years back I got a 375 RUM and was delighted with it; then Remington decided that the chambering was selling to their expectations, so they discontinued it. To make matters worse, Ruger introduced a similar but slightly less powerful cartridge that caused virtually all ammo production of the RUM to cease. So now the option is to get 300 RUM cases and expand the necks. the other option was to get the "parent" cartridge of the 375 RUM, the 404 Jeffery and form it to 375 RUM. So I got a bunch of 404 brass. It turns out that forming 375 RUM from 404 brass is more involved than anticipated. the other event was a glut of stores closing out their 375 ammo & brass. So I took advantage of those sales and stocked up on 375 RUM. So now I had a bunch of 404 brass that didn't want to become 375. What was I to do?? The only thing a self - respecting person could do.... I had to buy a 404.

Now there's this stack of 250 Savage ammo, brass and dies that I got from a friends estate - but no 250 Savage rifle. What else is there to do, but continue the search for the appropriate rifle to adopt.

Sounds like I can blame you!

See there are perfectly rational reasons why Pre-Purchase Syndrome can occur all of course are treatable but not ever a 100% curable

I guess the treatment is buying a rifle?
