The wife and I are going on our first safari next year with @Pawprint Safaris. I started my taxidermy search and I am thinking I am leaning to bullseye taxidermy in SA. Has anyone used them? Could you give me the good the bad and the ugly? You can PM me if you would like to keep it private.

I used bulleye for my 2012 and 2014 safaris and was completely satisfied. Communication was great and more importantly the taxidermy is very well done.

what did you have them do? would you mind sending me pics of the mounts please?

I have not used bullseye. But when I hunted with Pawprint last year I used Capricorn and was happy with their work. And they picked up my trophy's at the lodge on the last day of my hunt.

I have seen pictures of capricorns work and right now I am trying to figure out which one I want to use.

I second Capricorn. Mike does a good job of communicating and getting back to you with a timely response. I used him for my last two safaris with Pawprints.

I would recommend having your work done state side, a safari is a good size investment, why not spend some of that money at home. When we added in the shipping costs to the mounts done in SA the final price between having the work done state side and having it done in SA was all most the same. We went with the state side option.

I had only three shoulder mounts done most was skins and euro mounts. Had everything dipped and pack this year. All in one crate should get here by Christmas. In my opinion if u shoot a real trophy have it sent to the states. No comparison in my opinion. I'll find the pics and pm them to you

Maybe on most animals.. but if you add a giraffe into the picture then it isn't even close to the same price range

I agree have the work done here. I had one experience with a taxidermist in SA and was not satisfied. Pay the extra money is all I can say.

I should probebly mention that I just had Capricorn dip and pack everything. I am having all the tanning and mounts done in the States. I considered having some work done in SA but there was just to much that could wrong and was out of my control with no real recourse if things went bad.
In your case with a giraffe that defintaly ads a little different spin, but even then I don't think I would risk having it fully mounted in SA and risk the shipping. There are some really good taxidermists in the States that should be able to hook you up.
Anyway, good luck and looking forward to the hunt report when you get back. :)

The saving just on the giraffe will make it worth it to have done over there. Yes the quality of the best studios here in the state will be better but you most decide when value and quality meet up.

Some people like to say they got bad work but forget to add the fact they were told to have the problem fixed by who ever they want and it would be paid for. No sending work back over to Sa for the small repair that needed to be done. The problem should have never happen but it did and the offered was made to fix. So if you pick the right place they will do what is right in the end.

I will keep having my work done over in SA as I have been happy with how it has gone for me so far. You have some time yet to work on picking a place and I will help were I can but I would say your safe with bulleyes if you pick them

You're doing the smart thing and researching before you go. I have had two messages from my past outfitter in Namibia about the taxidermist I use by people on there hunt. Way too late IMO.

Anyway, check out this past review.

Never used them for taxidermy but they did tan my giraffe and did a great job at a great price.

I would research the taxidermist in your area here in the states if this is where you are from or anywhere else for the matter and go and visit a few of them to see their work. This might swing your decision one way or another. All it takes is one problem with a mount done in Africa to ruin your trophy room.

The taxidermist that I used here in the states had a spring buck that he was fixing after it had been done in Africa and he was waiting on a new cape for it so he could remount it.

There are some very competent taxidermist here in the US that can mount your trophies and let you watch the work if they are close enough to you or send you photos of the process.
