From time to time I have posted pieces about some of the strange things anti-hunting activists get up to. When I do, some say that we need to engage more with some of these activists, and some suggest that would be a waste of time. I tend to come down on the side of not wasting my time. Perhaps I am wrong, who knows. Here's a new example.

Since it's Mother's Day, what could be more appropriate than a celebration of mothers - all mothers! And I do mean all!

This is from a website called "mothersagainstdairy.org", which ran a half page ad in one of Canada's national newspapers yesterday.

No mother should be denied the right to nurse and care for her child. When my daughter was born, it helped affirm for me the connection that all animal mothers have with their babies. More than ever I saw how the animal use industry separates moms from their babies without any thought.

On dairy farms, no one is getting consent from a cow to take her baby away from her, or to take her milk for the use and consumption of humans. Her milk was meant for her newborn calf, just as a human’s milk is made for her newborn baby. My breast milk is the perfect food for my child, especially designed for her nutritional needs, just as a cow’s milk is designed especially for her calf.

We should not be intruding into the mothering relationship of anyone in order to steal and commodify their maternal lactations!
And yet another example:

The animals whose bodies and secretions that we eat, be they cows or pigs or chickens, feel emotions as strongly as we do, and perhaps they feel them even more strongly. They feel the strong bonds of family; they become attached and love each other. I am grateful for my children for allowing me to understand this, and I look forward to the day when all nonhuman families are given the respect they deserve.
I would take it as a great favour if those who are hunting in Africa today could wish all of the animal mothers they see a very happy mother's day (and have a beer instead of a glass of milk).

I can't wait for father's day.

My two boys who are stateside took their mother to a sports tavern that has delicious food because she thought it would be deserted. Then the youngest drove his mother down nooks and crannies in Williamsburg while the middle son and I went to beat a cold, dead stream with our fishing rods. We had a beer, and scads of cheese on our pizza with nary a thought of dispossessed calves, because we are omnivores and we revel in it. We also caused many chickens to be flightless because we ate their wings.

The scary thing is that the woman who wrote that has obviously bred! Lord help us!

HAHAHAHA...

Nutters.
