NAMIBIA: My Hunt With Frontier Safaris (Barry Burchell Property)

Isn't this the outfitter Boddington endorses ?

He also endorses Weatherby rifles, particularly their "MK V / .340 caliber".
So, I'm not especially surprised that Mr. B., or any professional Gun Writer, would endorse pretty much anything that, provides them with goods or services, in exchange for a favorable write-up.

I'm not very knowledgeable about rifles, are the Weatherby rifles of poor quality. I always thought they had a good reputation.

Sorry to hear about your awful experience, Brandon !

God, this sounds like a hunt from hell....

Cull hunting....

Cull hunting but paying trophy prices! It does get better, trophies for myself anyway, but the worse part is coming. I'll continue tomorrow night when I'm back home.

Can we get the rest of the story?

Tomorrow night my friend, I'm in a motel I work construction. So far it was memory, but want to tell the story right. I have a scrapbook at home

I can share a bit of my dads hunt, I'll start that as he's computer illiterate and doesn't have no interest in posting or anything with computers!
My father had a guide assigned to him, not a ph. The guide never been on this property. He did collect a few animals. The monster blue wildebeest I mentioned before, a damn nice kudu, 54 inch. And a small gemsbok, maybe 30 inch but not both horns one was around 26 inch the other 30. Oh yeah a real nice steenbok. But his previous trip, he got a dandy steenbuck that he has full body mount.

His kudu he got this trip, was kind of a fluke, we were at camp, and some visitors come to visit the staff, they said big kudu they saw coming in. Well, none of us knew what they were saying, language barrier.
We all thought jay, the bowhunter of our group, shot a big kudu, as he was sitting at a waterhole that they drove past to come into the camp.
Dads guide and another guide were jumping in a Toyota and asked who wanted to go. Dad said he'd go, he thought he was going to see / help collect jays big kudu. He went to the truck and they said where's your gun? Dad looked at me and I said take your gun just in case? I don't know?
Well, the visitors spotted a big kudu, when dad come back he had that dandy kudu! Surprise surprise!

And them were the only animals my dad collected in this trip, a far cry from 12 animals

I hope to get some pics up this weekend, stay tuned!

Day 4 off memory, I'm sure of this as well, my ph and myself went on a walk. We went to a couple high vantage points, glassing the surroundings. We were watching a group of wildebeest. I was still salty at my wildebeest that I shot( the small female). My ph was very excited about a big bull in the group. But I already had my wildebeest and it would of been extra to shoot this one, so I wasn't interested in this group. I started glassing around and seen a big gemsbok. I had 2 on my list. First one I shot was a female with broken horn, so I was glad to see this big fella.
I pointed him out to my ph, he glassed him and said yes he's a nice one. I took the shot at around 300 yards and he dropped! Very happy to get my first nice trophy!

Day 5, this was the day I'll never forget. At breakfast, the camp manager tells us there is a problem, Barry burchell never got our hunting licenses. And we were told the group in the south camp,( the hunters there) were put in jail. Because they didn't have licenses either. So the staff took our trophies we had already, from the salt, and hid them in the bush. We were then told we were there on photo safari. They were worried the Namibian police were coming to our camp. So, that day, which was suppose to be hunting, we drove around the property, as tourists! No guns, no hunting. Lost a day of hunting.
As you can imagine, we were all worried,( locked up abroad the tv show)

Outrageous.

Interesting, I've never really thought about this before although I have seen the suggestions that when planning your safari always make sure you ask to see the licenses before you start your hunt. I guess this will be something I will need to do going forward.
