Well last year I bought a Remington 700 in 30'06. It's one of a few 30cal rifles I didn't have. Always wanted one but I had a plethora of 30 cals so I was patient and caught an 06 on sale at academy. Naturally I brought it home and started tearing it apart. The great thing about this rifle was that it already had a satin finish and a mid weight barrel as opposed to the light sporter weight. I didn't really want to go with a heavy barrel on this one as I wanted to keep the weight down. So, I took the cheap Tupperware stock and trashed it for a magpull. I then replaced the bottom metal and internal box magazine with a detachable mag. Upgraded the trigger and topped it with a steel 20 moa rail and vortex 4-12 scope. It was an easy build with all drop in parts unlike my 300 mag which I worked on for almost 2 years before it was finished. Welp here's the end result and I can't wait to shoot it.

I will put different scope rings on it but those were the only 1" rings I had in my spare parts box. I'll shoot it for a little while then put good rings on it. I have very few 1" scopes anymore opting for the 30mm on 99% of my rifles but I got a smoking deal on the scope so hey can't beat that right.

Can't wait to here how it shoots. Try some factory Barnes 150 TTSX. They shoot 7/16" 3 shot groups in my old Remington 78 (same as 700). Just starting to work on the 168 TTSX handloads.

IMR 4350. IMR 4451. 168 gr or 180 Secret to all 06 loads. Fantastic round., overlooked by so many. Most versatile of all. 125 gr to 220 gr.

Looks good. Likely to shoot well for you. Let us know how she does. Bruce

Gizmo, I'm interested to hear how the Magpul stock and magazine feed work for you. I have a Remington cheap synthetic stock on mine, but it is so flexible it hits the barrel. Not conducive to accuracy. But some loads like the Vor-TX 150gr do shoot very well in spite of it.

Just in testing I've fed a few rounds through the mag into the action and haven't had any trouble. Once I get to shooting it and actually using it that will tell the tale. Seems like it's going to work well thus far. I know magpull sunk a ton of money into developing this rig.

What a POS..... LOL... Just kidding brother. Man... it looks like ass! Congrats on the build!

Congrats! Look forward to some range reports!

Go shoot it for the love of God! I'm interested in that magpul stock as well.

IMR4350 was the trick in my wife's .06 and it seems in the vast majority of the .30-06 owning free world population. Is this going to be a general hunting rifle or purpose specific?

Looks very much like a competition target rifle.
I don't have a 30/06 anymore but I used them for years. I liked 165gn using AR2209 which is the Australian powder that emulates 4350.
I also used the 30/06s for target shooting but went to the 270 when a friend wanted to swap.

Oh believe me I have several 270's as well. I went with the 06 as with about 15 various 30 cal's I didn't have an 06 and always wanted one.

I'm on my 4th 270 but instead of 30/06 I use Remington 700 stock and action w a s:steel 24 inch barrel and timney trigger set at 3/4 lb
Shoots better groups and by sheer fluke the 180 and 150 grains shoot to the same east west but the 180s shoot an inch higher
I figure that a big animal like a kudu will be better anchored w the 300
I also find the 270 shoots flatter and has more energy than the 06 but it depends on what you are hunting
My sako 270 shoots ballistic tips so differently compared to others though

Right I'm a huuuge fan of a 270. I've hunted all over North America with it as well as Africa. 130 grain bullets will kill just about anything dead in its tracks out to 400 yards. Looove my 270's.

I built a 300 mag from a savage action. I posted a full deal on another thread on it but only thing from the original rifle I kept was the action itself. It's a bad mammer jammer. Took me two years to finally finish it but it was well worth it. Started killing shit with it last season.

I'm with ya except for curry :D:sick:. Never have been able to tolerate it.

The barrel looks long - great velocity if so
I notice it has a s/steel barrel
Great choice these days
With all of the tinkering you should get really great groups
I guess now you'll be trying various loads
Congratulations and enjoy your toy

I haven't quite finalized the loads on the 300 yet. I can clover leaf them at 100 yards with it but at distance I have some room for improvement. I really like flex tip bullets but I've had issues with them starting to melt at distance and the BC starting to tank. Been kicking around the idea of burgers with it.
