Captive-bred Lion and PHASA?

here is another scenario...

lets say the Outfitter / PH gets expelled from PHASA because of the involvement of captive bred Lion and lets say the hunting of them...

1. will you still hunt with this Outfitter / PH?

Unfortunately this decision makes PHASA irrelevant when choosing an outfitter. Sad to see.

As Marius I understand that SAPA and PHASA will soon have a meeting. Lets see what transpires. We must remember that the hunting of these lions are still legal and that they can still be exported to quite a number of countries. This to me looks a bit like a restraint of trade which can never be a good thing.

Also why I think the prices won't come down as everyone proclaims. It's only import into USA that is affected, not the rest of the world. Unless USFWS closes down importation worldwide, since they already think they know what is better for a county's wildlife than it's inhabitants.

I do agree with you on that...but remember in the NW as you probably would know, the majority of hunters are from the USA on Lion...I know at least 3 Outfitters and/or Lion farms that doesn't have any other foreign clientele other than Americans.

Patrick, I fully agree with your statement. I just think marketing efforts will change ,less lions will be hunted but price will not drop dramatically. Non trophy hunts at a lower price will most probably come into play. We must remember things can change, depending on what SAPA comes up with, depending on USA presidential elections, and depending on the requirements USFWS will have on import permits. I just think the fat lady has not sung yet. I suggest joining SAPA to help them in their efforts.

keep in mind less lion will be hunted and price might be lower / or much higher...end of the day to make the "new" quota justifying your expenses...eish, this can ruin a lot of people!

Bushwack, there will always be a market for ethical free range lion hunting in Africa, if they stop the boers to selling hunting for fake cats in South the prices will expand where you can hunting lion as it should be that will say in a non-fenced area.

For me it's unethical and very much hurting the hunting industry, and I'm positive for PHASA'S decision in this case.

Furthermore, to take a scratch free breeding lion and then mount it.... I can see from miles it's a breeding cat, not the real thing and in eyes of people that know it's a joke.

I will say that 80-90 % of European hunters with perhaps a deeper hunting tradition will never hunting lion in a fenced area !

Hope I did not hurt anyone, but this canned hunting only destroy future possibilities to hunting.

It's for must of us a lifetime trophy and hunting experience, and it should be ethical.

Your statement is fair! and all business have their bad apples...but taking and shooting Lion over bait isn't that ethical either in some's eye view and fencing has nothing to do with this case also - some call it luring...
