Pictures as Trophies

I posted these two photos on another thread, but they are two of my favorite African "trophies." The lions were taken in Mozambique last August as my PH and I were slipping along on foot looking for sable and Hartebeest. We were on a trail and rounded a corner to come face-to-face with these two. They set up, and we froze. My PH whispered that they looked like they had recently come off a kill, and that if I moved very slowly that I could probably get a picture. The shot was taken with a little pocket Nikon at about fifty yards. We then slipped back the way we came. The male is magnificent. And he didn't come from behind a fence.

The black rhino bull was "shot" in '08 in a conservancy in Namibia. We were out hunting PG and stumbled across his spoor. We tracked him for an hour or so and then were able to close within about 40 yards. Again, this shot was taken with a pocket camera. I have never been around anything as "switched on" as this guy was. He would instantly face any direction where he thought he perceived a sound. I assume he heard something during our approach.

I think I am as proud of these two photos as I am anything else in the trophy room.

Hunting with a camera is great fun.
Distance is a great part of the trophy.
Taking pictures with a pocket camera of these beasts is amazing.

To be out stalking Eland walking through the Kalahari sand we managed to be within a few yards of this sleeping Aardwolf. This was taken with an iPhone.

We left him sleeping. He never even knew we were there.

That must have been a sphincter puckering lion encounter! Are the odds that there were several more lions there that you did not see? Fantastic photo and wonderful story!

My other "canon" is always close by on my hunts. I love shooting photos while in the bush. I usually have my DSLR around my neck with my binos even while I hunt. The beauty of this is you get to enjoy even more trophies. I enjoy hunting with a digital almost as much as with rifle or bow.

SO QUESTION ......... were full trophy fees paid ? After all shots were taken . LOL !!!! excellent pictures .
