Did You bowhunt in South Africa or do you live or have a hunting business in South Africa. How has the weather been for your season this year and did it effect your hunt? I was in the Limpopo region for the first 3 weeks of September. Although we didn't go to other areas of RSA we hunted quite a few different places from one end to the other.
I had heard that the rains were pretty late and heavy this year, and saw lots of flood damage to roads and other places. We actually had a little rain when I was there and thunder storms. Lightning in RSA is pretty wild. I was amazed at how thick the brush still was and tall the grass was. I usually go in June-August and everything looked a lot greener this year than even those months usually are.
I see it is raining there today so I would imagine the green season is coming very early this year. It certainly made it more challenging to hunt as there was a lot of standing feed, green grass and even still standing water and creeks that are usually dry by now. I spoke to a few people that went hunting early this year and they certainly had a bit tougher time than usual. How did you find the season and what are your guesses for 2026?

Hi Adipose,
I've bow hunted in May in SA, August in Botswana, September in SA this year.
The bush has been very thick and still green all year, the walk and stalk has been very challenging and the animal activities around the blinds certainly as good as last year. SA / Botswana had a lot of rain.
Last year was a drought season called el nino and this is usually followed by a wet season called la nina for 2025. However, I have no idea for the 2026 season rainfall prediction.

There reports are that we will have wet summer.

In the Emirates Lounge in Jo’burg. On my way back home 8 day bow hunt Eastern Cape/Karoo. Not a lick of rain. Windy as shit though.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
