Yeah, I thought that flip up sight was pretty cool as well when I found it yesterday. That rifle is definitely a handy little thing. Congrats and here's to many years of enjoyment.Agree....but a dead giveaway was a 6.5 x 54 cartridge head decoratively embedded in the pistol grip cap.
Also did not notice it has a flip up vernier sight.
No doubt it will last two lifetimes...from the bolt face it appears NEVER to have been fired! Don't worry--it won't stay that way. ....Still turning hand flips like a kid at Christmas!Yeah, I thought that flip up sight was pretty cool as well when I found it yesterday. Again, a hearty congratulations. Something I couldn't quite figure out when I was handling it; what does the little button just to the right of the center of the bolt do (the one by the ejection port)? My guess at the time was that it maybe opened the floor plate or released the bolt. I'm not familiar enough with MS rifles to know, and those trigger locks sometimes keep you from operating some of the other functions. No doubt it will last two lifetimes...from the bolt face it appears NEVER to have been fired! That button is used to unload the magazine.Again, a hearty congratulations. I missed that sale too but my Steyr Scout is a tack driving machine. Tough as hell too.Was shocked to hear that Steyr USA had dumped/sold on the cheap a LOT of rifles into several Cabela's locations 2 years ago. The idea was to move out rifles with the old method of scope attachment, and introduce newer rifles with piccatinny rails. They continued to lower prices until they were about $700 for the ones that just wouldn't sell. (all 308's sold immediately, I was told)
It is possible the other Cabela's locations still have some in stock, but Cabela's Allen, TX is sold out. Still scratching my head that I missed that--I didn't know it had been so long since I gave them a look.
