Anyone else shooting doves today?

Waiting to get a heart cath. If things work out I'll be after them later in the season.

The 3-4” of rain we got yesterday didn’t do anything to help our opening. Went this morning and killed 3 with 4 shots fired. I’ll be off again on Thursday and give it another try.

Just returned from a great hunt in NE North Carolina (Gates County). Good friends family farm, sunflowers and corn harvested within the last few weeks. Pay per gun hunt, but the birds were flying and plenty of guns to keep them moving. Next round Saturday, September 6.

Southern Idaho checking in! I was helping a friend with an archery elk hunt this morning; this thread was a good reminder about the dove opener! So six doves on an evening hunt, and, more importantly, I’m happy to report Clancy boy remembers how to retrieve. Upland game starts in 19 days.

Limited out on opening day and the following day outside of Hondo, TX…

Ate dove poppers for dinner a couple of nights ago… having fried dove nuggets for dinner tonight :)

There’s definitely a LOT more birds down south than we have up here in N TX…

Although you could tell it was a great hatch this year and probably not so great last year… most of the birds we took were young/small

I’m completely rained out, very disappointed I gambled on the weather
Maybe they’ll still be here after I get home from Mexico and tuna fishing?

The four of us last Monday only got four doves. Often times it’s tough hunting early in Colorado. It was 44F yesterday morning and 45F this morning, so some of the northern birds may be headed this way. We’re going to try again next week sometime.

Gotta love a kitchen with a tub of bacon grease on the counter!
A proper kitchen is always stocked with rendered pig fat, bacon takes most things to the next level. Dove breasts and bacon are a marriage made in heaven.

Myself and @Doug3006 hunted green pigeons in Zambia after taking our buffalo and other plains game. 22 long rifle.
This reminds me how come nobody ever post about bird hunting in African?
Last time I inquired about it with a ph he just kinda shuffled around about it

Got the corn off yesterday. Doves everywhere today. I should have had some folks over. I felt somewhat selfish out there all alone! I’m happy to report that the Westley Richards is just as deadly on dove as it is on clay.

Add cream cheese into the breasts and wrap a slice of bacon and a mild pepper over that with a toothpick and your tastebuds will be in heaven.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
