"What have you killed with the cartridge 8x57IS ?
Quite a lot, extremely difficult question to answer for an older hunter of german tradition from east France and Germany."
That's exactly right.
Better ask these hunters what they haven't shot with it.

I carry the rimfire version in my hunting mentor's (Lehrprinz) drilling rifle, which he got from his father.
It was still the old IR version. So, the old first "nitro"powder 8x57 infantry cartridge from the Kaiser's time, but the barrel was rusting, so I had it rebarreled to IRS.
IS stands for “Infantry Spearhead” and was a staple of the German military during both world wars.
Sometimes the S is described as strong, as its diameter is 0.13 mm larger than the old I.
Historically, however, experts disagree about this letter.
My drilling is about 100 years old and in perfect condition.
The rimfire version of the 8x57 is a little weaker, but the game I shot with it had no opportunity to complain.
Black bear, deer, wild boars, roe deer, and foxes were my prey with the 8x57.
Occasionally, I dig out a few photos of this “sister caliber.”
