I sold a few to Cabelas before the Bass Pro buy out. At that time they were up front and told me they pay 70% of what they think they can sell it for. It was worth it to me at the time to avoid the headaches associated with trying to sell them myself.

Interesting. I looked at the Manton and it states "Added 3-1-19". I don't know if that is accurate, but difficult to believe it has been listed for 6+ years.

I would be very careful with guns from Simpsons. They find great bargains overseas and import economical guns for affordable prices. However, they often have guns that are off face, out of time ejectors, or dangerously thin walls.

A bargain basement, utility grade Birmingham double rifle with the meaningless Manton name attached to it isn't worth a fortune. A pristine example with ejectors, long stock, and plenty of case colors remaining might be $18k-$22k. If you misread a defect or problem with a $14k Manton, you might find yourself owning a very sad gun with $24k+ invested in it by the end of repairing latent defects.

Just be careful, make sure your desire for a deal doesn't cloud expert judgment required to buy such a gun that has weak documentation.

I just looked closely at the DR. Looks like it was brushed bright and french grayed. Amateur reblacked the barrels and didn't polish off the flats to allow for reading of the proof marks. Crudely chopped down stock resulted in moving of the sling eye, then a stock extension and pad bringing it back to 14-3/8". It is long barreled at 28", a style of the time but not a desirable style of the present. The stock appears to have been pinned at the head as evidence of the screw running through it... hardly "stock: excellent" as the seller's description suggests.

Just a quick reminder of history: Joseph Manton was the single finest gunmaker in England during his lifetime in the early 1800s. He died long before the breech loader existed or the nitro calibers were invented. An enterprising Brit purchased his name and goodwill, then purchased entry-level to mid-grade guns from the Birmingham trade. Most Mantons of this "new" era were retailed in their shop in India, I believe it was Calcutta but don't hold me to that. They are of a quality similar to Lyon & Lyon. Nothing wrong with a no-name Birmingham gun, but that is exactly what a Manton of the 19th or 20th century is, it has nothing to do with the real Joseph Manton.

It seems like they do product runs and then that batch hits the market. Folks put in deposits and get ahold of them just to flip and make some money.

In case anyone is interested, I was at the Cabelas store in Allen, Texas earlier today; and they had two mid-1980's red pad Ruger No. 1B's in their Gun Library that they've put on display sometime within the last few days. One was in 25-06 Rem. and the other was in 257 Roberts. The 25-06 was in Very Good condition with a rather plain wooden stock, and was priced at $1599. The 257 Roberts had some nicely figured walnut on the rear, but there was a little too much wear on the stock finish (at least in my opinion) to justify the $1,399 price. I would have been a buyer of the 257 somewhere around a grand. Neither gun came with a scope, rings, or original box.

Not much pictured to see details but yes that is a very good price. Especially for a 375 H&H which seems don't show up for sale as often as the 416 Rigby or even 458 Lott.

I didn’t see the first picture when I looked earlier. Appears to be one of the less pretty stocks.
