What's your one favorite caliber?

Hi Paul,

"For me, my all-time favorite caliber that will serve me for 95+% of the hunting I will ever do is the 7x57/275 Rigby. It's got history and class and its pretty damned versatile and useful across a wide range of game animals across the globe."

For me, too!!

I have two 7mm Mauser rifles. Use it since 1972 as MY cartridge. For 20 years my one and only big game rifle was a DWM Original sporting rifle 1893 action. Last week end I checked its zero...3 shots in 3 cm (a little more than 1 ") at 100 m. 154 grs Hornady Interlocks at 2700 f/s.
In a good Mauser is a handloader dream!

My VERY CLOSE second, now, is the 9,3x62. Because the cartridge AND the rifle I have for it.

There seems to be a misconception here as everyone is li sting their favorite cartridge which is not the same as caliber. My favorite caliber is 35. My favorite cartridge is a whole nother matter

I know Bob will say .243 is his favorite, and I don't want to steal his thunder, even though I've killed a lot of North American game with it and even more PG with it.

7MM REM MAG is till my favorite...

Well 12gauge. Had all sorts of rifles but most of my hunting has been done with the 12 bore. Birds to beasts. Do love my 7x57 as well as 22wrm spent some time behind a 303. But really it all started with a single shot 12. So yeah:notworthy:

340 Weatherby, unless I am shooting my 25-06, but then there is my 7mm Rem mag or 30-06 and my 22-250.

Or a half dozen other calibers that I have in my safe.

But wait, you said caliber. So it would have to be. 338, 25, 7mm, 30, or 22.

Ah heck I like them all.

My favorite is the .270 Win. I grew of age reading everything Jack O’Connor wrote. The .270 was my first big game rifle. The more the years have rolled by, the more certain I have become that Jack was a pretty smart fellow.

The most utilitarian chamberings I own and use are .375H&H and 300 Win Mag.

Depends on where I am. Here in the states it's my .25/06. When I go overseas it's usually a .300 win mag or a .375H&H.

.338 win mag all the way

7X57 for 60 years. Doesn't talk back, no back sass, no arguing, always dose what you want it to when you want it done.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
