The Shootist was John Wayne's last movie.

The movie Cowboys was supposed to have been his last movie, however public outcry over the way his character was killed, and after all he is John Wayne an American icon, Hollywood went to work on a movie that would appease the American public, for a more appropriate ending of an elite American {movie} icon.

I find the ending shootout in The Shootist a bit ironic as John Wayne's character is killed, shot in the back by a cowardly barkeeper using a short barreled shotgun. When he and the other last of the gunslingers could have all easily gone done in the hales of bullets being fired.

It’s from 1995 but the characters were talking about their youth. It’s a great movie if you haven’t seen it “Things to do in Denver when you’re dead”

+1 with TC. Never heard of this titled movie. I hope the movie is better than the title.

very good. i agree. the duke in westerns was my favorite to watch. have to dust-off shootist and have another look.

I watched that happen to a bus on my first safari. Was almost completely stripped when we drove by it 10 days later always made me think of that scene
