Hello just became a new member and looking for advice. I want to plan my first trip for my wife and I to bow hunt Africa. We really need to keep our cost down and I'm leaning toward a cull hunt for our first trip any advice on outfitters, best deals on flights etc...

Thanks
Jim

Welcome Jim.
For a minute I was scared by your handle. KY....

There are lots of great deals posted on AH. Look in the GREAT DEALS section.
Plenty of Bow Hunting ops in Namibia and RSA that will fit the ticket.

Flights SAA posts deals from NY and Dulles all the time. Off time of year to Joburg.
Delta, etc.

Good luck with your planning.

Good day Jim and welcome. There are lots of great bowhunting deals available at an affordable cost, especially if you are interested in cull animals.Feel free to send me a PM if I can assist you.

Hi Jim,
Welcome to the forum. Take Pieter from Paw Print's advice and contact him. He has some really nice bowhunt deals available and he is one of the resident outfitters here on AH.
All the best with the planning of your trip.

Take Care,
Marius Goosen

Welcome to AH.:welcome: Enjoy planning your hunt. There are a number of good outfitters on this site. Go through the hunt reports and check them out.

All the best.

Hallo Jim

Good luck on your planning and welcome to the best hunting forum on the web! :bighello: As Marius said, you might contact Pieter from Paw Print Safaris - he has fine deals on bow hunting.

Welcome!

You've come to the right place! I've learned a LOT from the fine folks on this website and now consider several people here to be good friends. Planning and learning is half of the fun. Ask plenty of questions and enjoy!!! I honestly don't think that I'll ever book another hunt that doesn't start from this site.

Well said Royal27! :dancing:

I think it's neat how some of the PH's recommended another PH from this site.
It shows this hunting forum, unlike some others I've seen, is a gentleman's hunting forum.
thanks guys.

Now, when the recommendations were posted, I clicked on Pawprint's site.
He has a trophy package of 5 days, 3 animals and one of those is a wilderbeest. all for $2900. sounds pretty good.

You could add in a warthog for another $250 and an extra day to make a 6 day hunt and would be around $3300-3500.

Then, you could do euro mounts on the trophies and it would not be that expensive to have your trophies also.
The euromounts for 4 animals, I'd imagine, would be about $800 and the shipping about $1500. So trophies would be $2300 total.

If you are both hunting and want the euromounts, then the shipping could be all in 1 crate so shipping would remain the same.

But, you could shoot many more animals with the cull hunt, of course. Just wanted to give you another option to think about.\

True you will not find this on other sites although we hunt different areas the outfitters here knows each others offers and whether it is good or not.Must take my hat off to the guys on here, think we should organise an end of season get together.

Welcome to AH Jim!

Hi Jim,

Welcome to AH, I'm sure you will find some good info here to help you plan your hunt. For a first hunt, I would steer you away from a cull hunt. To keep cost down focus on less animals, but take good ones. A cull hunt is not generally a great hunt but focuses on taking numbers out of the herd, more shooting less hunting. Another great way to keep cost down is to bring back pictures or only a coupe of trophies. most guys bring back everything from their first safari and get it all mounted, do skull mounts and take some great photos instead. Good taxidermy is expensive and can easily cost as much as the safari.
Drop me a Pm i have a great outfitter in Namibia that does some good two person hunts that are relatively inexpensive. Good luck and happy hunting.

Jim,
Welcome to AH. There are folks on here who are real experts (not me) with an amazing amount of experience (again, not me). Just keep asking questions. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn here.

Pieter, I take you up on this one! We should definitely arrange a get together at the end of the season. Making it a African Hunting.com South African Outfitters Get Together. Just imagine all the story tales and encounters that can be discussed, it will be epic!

Welcome to AH Jim! Enjoy the site.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
