I met Johnny last June while in Chewore south. He seemed like he would be a pleasure to hunt with. Mark Quellette is hunting with Johnny now in Chewore South.

Ouellette with an O is in fact in camp with Johnny Russell as I peck out this reply on my phone. I certainly agree with @Altitude sickness and the OP’s opinion of Johnny! Class act! He is the type of person that if one spends a couple hours with him most would hire him outright and then find a position in their organization for him. He is that good!

Congratulations @Andrew62 on a great hunt. As you mentioned, I had a fabulous hunt in May. Dalton & York run a well organized outfit, and I fell in love with the Omay. It's big country and it's real hunting; you can get all the walking you want, and I loved that part. I really enjoyed the evenings around the campfire with all the PH's and appy PH's, just having the chance to hear stories and learn from all their experiences. It's a great atmosphere.

And Johnny Russell is absolutely Top Shelf. I know there are a lot of hard working and very skilled and experienced PH's working in Africa right now, but in my book he belongs in the top tier. Like you, I really loved the way he would stand with his trackers, hats off, at the tailgate of the Land Cruiser, having a quiet prayer for success and safety for the day. Pure class. And then they would all get to work!
