After many trips to Africa I finally got a Leopard on my plate. Found a super deal on a combo Elephant and Leopard in Southern Zim on the Limpopo River. History has shown a number of big tuskers have been taken in this concession as they head North across the river. I plan on carrying my VC 500 NE with CEB solids for the elephant, which has been tried and true in the past. However, this is my first Leopard and I plan on bringing my 300 Win Mag shooting 180 gn Swift Sciroccos.

Any advice on this set up for Leopard?

Your choice for leopard sounds perfect to me.
My other choice was a 180gn Hammer Hunter. Both shoot about the same out of my gun.

You’re all set. Let us know how it goes!

You are set for rifles!

I would also look at the optics on the Leopard rifle to have very good light gathering capabilities. As you shot will most likely be right before sunset or at sunrise.

I like the 2-10 range of magnification myself.

I had the same set up on my last leopard. With my Z8 scope it was an amazing and effective option for leopard. "Option"! What am I saying? This was THE superior setup for leopard.

I concur with the rest of the group: the 300 Win Mag shooting 180 gr Swift Scirocco will do the job.

Leopard is the one DG on which you want a quick opening bullet.

My own leopard medicine is not all that different: .300 Wby shooting 180 gr Nosler Partition :)

Got the scope covered. My 300 wears a Swaro Zi8 with a 56 mm Objective

I have been shooting a lot with 30.06 and .308 but after I started using the 300 win mag for a variety of african animals there is no going back. It gives you that extra punch, like 30.06 on steroids

Looking for Leopard next July in Niassa

300 H&H with 168gr Berger

Any expanding, deep penetration bullet will be fine. Many to choose from, whether its lead o monolithic; pick your poison. If in doubt, ask your PH.

That combo will do well. Personally, I wanted a softer bullet and opted for a Corelokt. Ultimately, shot placement is key regardless of the bullet you pick.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
