What about this old boy Sarge.

Not sure Paul, how many teeth did that one have left ?

I was fishing with a hunter who had shot out, we saw a Bull & I snuck in for a photo & he charged me, I ducked behind a tree & he hit that, then I jumped across the creek, he didn’t follow up, foolishly I wasn’t carrying as fishing & left rifle in the truck.

We had just finished a few Spear hunts with the Relentless Pursuit guys & had spears galore in camp, I challenged my guy to a Spear hunt but he came back with he would use the Bosses Double Rifle, all this took another day before we started the hunt, I snuck him into range & found the old Bull soaking in a wallow, very still, sneaked a bit more & I glassed him @ 30yds, very very still & then I noticed glazed over eyes !

The old bugger died in his wallow sometime after chasing me off !

Awesome stuff Sarg.

Re the bull in the pic I added the teeth were right on the gumline.
Almost nothing but gum left. I really don't think he had another Wet left in him.

The bull you have pictured above is another doozie.
THAT'S a proper buffalo, I never tire of looking at bulls like these.

I'll look through my files.
I know I took a few in this age class over the years.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks Paul, I have a bunch also, I do prefer the Coastal giants to the inland Bulls but as I’m getting older the inland guys are easier for me to move about/set up than those heavy buggers !

I presume you meant wouldn’t make another Dry as the Wet is the easy time of year for them old guys ?

Same, I prefer hunting the Coastal bulls for sure.

Hehehe, no more "trophy pics" and recovering capes for me.
Take a pic where he lays, remove the "Euro" and leg it out !

In my area I reckon the Wet was much harder on weak, sick and aged animals than the dry.
During the dry I would burn across the country regularly, generating good feed and there were ample permanent water sources easily reached IF you could travel 10 - 15km's per day.

The Wet caused severe inundation, covering floodplains reducing feed areas and making access more physical. Each year I would find the odd carcass bones washed into a dry sink-hole, victims of the Wet.
I did notice that these older type bulls would migrate closer to the Coast as the Wet approached.
The raised, drier Cyprus woodlands provided shelter, reasonable feed as well as access to water.

This ole fella was killed less than 500 yards from where I first found him a week earlier.

He was living in an area the size of a football field.
Again, just a line of worn-down teeth on the gumline.
