Want To Buy IMR 4831

Good luck ! I haven't seen it for sale in a few years although still in production it sells out as fast as they make it. This was my go to for 270 Winchester loads. I have replaced all my I-4831 loads with H4831SC, it meters much better and is more temp stable. VV N160 is a good substitute as well.

Where are you.

Exactly! If more AH members would list their locations in their AH profiles, others would be more likely to contact them when they need help with items that either cannot be legally shipped or they are reluctant to ship.

For someone local to me, I might be able to scrounge up a few pounds of this or that gunpowder. Since I am not Department of Transportation certified to ship hazardous materials (HAZMAT), any transfer of gunpowder or bulk primers must be face to face.

From Google AI,
“To ship hazardous materials in the U.S., individuals must obtain HAZMAT certification. This certification ensures that shippers are knowledgeable about the risks and regulations associated with transporting hazardous materials.”

Frosty, before you buy 20lb of the stuff, if loading for your new 450NE, I’d try to spin up some loads with that RL15.5 have on hand to duplicate the velocity of the 4831 loads you received from the previous owner.

That RL15.5 is supposed to be everything RL15 was but more, way mo-temp stable, think it has an anti-copper agent, and will have way mo-less felt recoil than the 4831 loads…noticeably so. And more loads per pound, probably close to 12 rounds-ish for the same weight of 10.

I have 2# i woulld trade but cant ship as well so would have to be in Central Indiana

We loaded up some H4831SC, i have a few of the IMR 4831 already loaded and then i'm going to try the 15.5 on it. See what feels and shoots the best. The previous owner loves the IMR 4831 in it, over the RL15 which he tested pretty extensively.

I actually think this is going to be fun. Play around with loads and see which one i like but his previous testing is invaluable.

The H4831SC shot incredibly well, accuracy wise, but did have a bit more kiss than the IMR4831 loads he had already loaded.

Doh! I had my wife check the powder room. I thought I had some of the orange stuff at the house. She said just H4831. Fairly certain I have some at the ranch. I know I have some somewhere.

I’ll have to toss in a thanks. Good Karma moment, stopped in one of my little local shops, one where I scored 55lb of RL15 last year and couple kegs of 3031. He usually has a bunch of powders that folks up here don’t use as often…the Hodgdon Extreme powders are what most everyone wants and shoots…me included…for Alaskan hunts.

Sad to say no IMR4831 to try and bootleg. But I scored two more kegs of 3031 he came across digging around for the 4831.

I have one pound (18.2oz with container). If you find yourself the Austin area, you can have it for a donation to a dog rescue organization.

I think I have some but none of us can ship to you as it requires Hazmat.

If you're thinking of using it for a double rifle, it is the single worst powder with the single greatest recoil of any powder option I can imagine.

A 470NE load of 4831 outputs 90lbs of recoil, a load using 3031 outputs 60lbs.

It has only one virtue "it fills the case". A wad or stuffing is a way better option.
