Would you like a Cigar?

Hmm, I bought a box of 10 Alec Bradley "Tempus" cigars -- the cigar that established the company's reputation. As I was walking out to smoke it, I dropped it. Half of the wrapper unwound and no matter how I tried to repair it, I wasn't able to rescue it and tossed it. It seems to me that the wrapper, although nice looking, is way too thin on these cigars. I guess I've have to be super duper careful with the rest of them.

I had a similar situatiin last week. Stopped into the Cigar shop to get some sticks. Sat down in the lounge to smoke a Romeo y Julieta. Half way through, the Cigar started to disintigrate, wrapper unraveled. They gave me another, and same thing.

I don't know if its old stock? The wrapper dried out at one point? Something?

I hate buying cigars at shops that allow smoking. I only do it when I'm travelling and plan on having one there. But I never buy a box there. Those boxes stay open and yes are in humidified rooms. But people open the door constantly. Some establishment people smoke around them which would alter flavour and of course dry them out. And the better sticks cost more and are not every guys cup of tea. So they sit longer. And yes dry out. I always order mine from online retailers who do high volume so I know I'm getting fresh stuff.

Here's my rack of fame. Everytime I buy boxes. I'll smoke em. And if I love them. I keep 2 on the top rack. These are my current favorites and stay on the rack until I find one to dethrone one. And there always in pairs. Cause you know. No one wants to smoke one alone.

If you like Saka cigars you definitely need to try the Sobremesa short churchill too if you haven't.

It's an outstanding smoke and can be had pretty cheap if you look around.
Stopped by the Cigar shop again today. They don't carry anything from Dunbarton and the Saka blends. I will have to try some mail order.

Spent the 4th weekend at the lake with family. Many, many, many cigars gave their life in honor of our country. A mixture of El Rey Del Mundo, with a few Cuban Partagas Series D #4 thrown in for good measure. No phone or internet, so just getting back on line here to jot down favorites for my next order. I just found an Avo Synchro in the humidor I forgot I had, so will light that one up shortly to enjoy being back home on the porch. Thanks for all the good brand info.

I just fired up a Caldwell-Blind mans Bluff Maduro. Its a more subtle Maduro, without a lot of heavy flavor notes. Had one a couple weeks ago, and wanted to try a second.

A bug going around in july?

I wish it was that. I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis, and had a real bad flare up. So, I will be on antibiotics for the next 10 days, and will have to watch what I eat until I go see the Gastroenterologist. :censored::censored::censored::mad::mad::mad:

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis. Will keep you in my prayers. One of my best friends was diagnosed, had to have surgery. But other than being careful of what he eats(small seeds, popcorn, etc), he leads a very happy and active life. As far as I am aware, cigars are not on the “watch” list so you should be good to go!

@Mort Hill, thank you sir. Yes, the doc told me to stay away from small seeds & popcorn. Will definitely have to adjust my diet. The stomach cramps, soreness of the lower abdomen and bloating, kicked my butt this time and had me in bed for a good 2 days. Thank God cigars are not on the "watch" list. LOL!!!!! (y)(y)

My apologies gents, didn't mean to derail this great post with my post.

My last one was a Ashton Crystal 1 and it was a bit disappointing. Every time the ash hit an inch and fall off, the cigar went out. Had to relight it like 6 times. It seemed a bit excessive

Sorry to hear that. Hope it works out. My Uncle had that, and had to have surgery.

Just replenished the stock on both the Don Pepin and the flathead 660 today!!! In the humidor now. Both favorites of mine.
Both great sticks! I smoke one of each every weekend.

Old habits die hard, a friend of mine tried to stop smoking but he can't as it serves as his stress reliever.

I love Davidoff cigars, there is something elegant about them. I'm hooked on their Nicaraguan blend.

Look what I found, a cigar smiley. :Cigar::Cigar::Cigar:

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
