Would you be happy?

I think the buffalo saw that orange jacket and charged at him .I had huge bulls chase me across the pasture and and almost knock the fence down to try to get to me in my orange vest .

Went to the main YouTube site, blew up the vid and watched it in slow motion. The right leg was forward then coming back when he took the shot, of course there is a small bush kinda in the way. I’m not the most technically gifted but I think the shot was about where I made the red mark. I think it’s possible the first shot didn’t get all of the lungs or possibly a bit too far back? He ain’t a whitetail!

I think the shot was a bit higher than where you marked the shot. My first impression was high and back. Slowing the video down it was a high lung hit.

To the OP’s question, I’d only be pissed at myself for that shot. You say the PH’s fired away, yes they did after but the client made a marginal shot, the buffalo charged, and the elderly client didn’t/couldn’t take a shot on the charging buff. They were trying to ensure the hunters safety and prevent another possible charge. They were actively trying to get the client a second shot in the buffalo when it charged.

It looked high to me but not anywhere near the worst I’ve seen.

I think as long as the animal is dead and I'm still alive, I'd be OK.....and a lot more humble.

I would be pissed at myself for not making a better first shot.

Once a bull is wounded and charging, all bets are off. You just hope none in the party get hurt or killed.

This seems to be the latest example that some people just should not hunt dangerous game. A client who isn’t proficient in handling his rifle, makes a fairly poor first ashot that’s too high and far back, wears RED and ORANGE - this isn’t opening day in a Pennsylvania National Forest, Elmer Fudd!

And instead of focusing on buffalo hunting they've got a cameraman plus gun barrel cameras on their rifles! Jeez!!! Why do people focus on the cinema instead of the hunt?

My opinion, they got lucky. That goober in the red jacket should thank his lucky stars that the PH’s did their jobs, more or less.

My first thought was Elmer Fudd!
I’m very glad that everyone walked away without disaster or death.
This guy would scare me to death having him follow me with a loaded gun.
And to top it off his significant other was wearing pink camouflage.
Anybody who has ever been around a domestic bull knows that a bad idea!
To do it tracking a wounded Cape buffalo is just plain stupidity.

It definitely didn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the hunter getting his rifle loaded for him and instructions on how to work the safety.
I don’t think that the PH’s had much confidence or trust in the hunter either, that may be why they took the shots when the bull was hidden in the bush possibly averting another charge but that’s only a guess.
As for me I would be disappointed in myself, the PH’s did their job. The bull died and everyone went home unharmed.
I wonder if it is possible to know if the rifle was rented from the outfitter? That might explain some unfamiliarity with it, but the place to iron that sort of thing out is before the heat of battle.

Also, we let the perfect stand in the way of the good. If a poor shot is all you have the time or opportunity to get in ON A FOLLOWUP CHARGE, then take it. Another bullet anywhere in the animal is to the good. Sure, we'd rather have the perfect stopping shot, but sometimes we have to pour in the lead any way we can, and hope it gives us a better opportunity to finish the job.
The more you unpack what happened the more it should shake up the hunter as to what ALMOST happened. That bull came past them before they had time to think. The PH had been carrying his rifle in his right hand alone, and not at port arms. Shiver me timbers!

Wow, I just reviewed the film and one shot was fired, but why since the client WAS aiming.

Maybe they were "letting the buffalo decide how to die"......

I’m willing to bet the rifle was rented. The hunter had a distinct European accent and from other videos it is a trend that euro hunters are more likely to rent. I think some countries have more difficult import/export rules.

A guess obviously but I think a good one.

I kind of thought that myself, skipping along with the rifle in one hand seems like it may not be the best way to do this. I rewatched the video a couple times and noticed what can only be described as a game of musical rifles. The big ph and the client have clearly traded rifles back and forth in different places throughout the video.

Good eye, I missed the part about switching rifles, and DO NOT concur with that practice nor can I explain it apart from the idea that the PH wanted to get film of the followup shot with the rifle cam.

Or the shooter had 0 clue how tobuse a rifle so was like this ones loaded here you go

Not how I want my huny to go but the PH is doing his job for sure. It seems like client is carrying different rifles in the video. I'm booked for my1st buff hunt in 2027 and if a buff charges like that I sure hope my PH helps me out.

Well, I wouldn’t be happy that a video depicting me as an inexperienced and incapable hunter made its way to the Internet. Going over how the rifle works a few minutes before a DG experience is pretty poor planning, says I. Odd choice to include that in the video. If you don’t know how the rifle works, do you really know where to put a bullet? Odd choice to ever share this video.

I think everyone here is lucky the buffalo had terrible aim. That could have EASILY ended with a hurt or dead client. After a dance like that, I’d invite the cameraman, the trackers, the game scout, and maybe the neighbor kid to also open fire.

After a charge where nobody got hurt, who really cares if anyone is happy?

Haute couture hunting attire by Elmere Fudde of Paris.

Good job done by cameraman, who was the most dangerous one in the group. Everyone could watch the bull directly. He/she must focus on screen.

What was caliber the hunter used? Looks very tinny.

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?
