Whisky appreciation

Shoot, I too just found this thread! I certainly know more about whisky, than hunting Africa. Few pics of my current stock.
Good selection. The Longrow is a nice drop. Just opened the bottle that I purchased at Dramfest 2023. The Longrow Red that I also purchased, will have to wait a bit. Too many choices!

Yes, Glenfiddich created the international single malt market BUT … it is only in the last year or so that they have started releasing completely new expressions. A long way to go, before they catch up with everyone else. Should be worth the watch.

I might have tried that expression. What with all the whisky tastings I have attended over the last several years, I may have lost track … A first world problem. Wee Beastie is an easily accessible Ardbeg, if you just want an Islay whisky—with plenty of peat—to pour and drink, pretty much straight away. Easier on the wallet, as well.
The 12 year old Small Batch—Red label—Bunnahabhain is also a good choice, for Islay lovers. It has only been available for a few years and each shipment sells out fairly quickly in my neck of the woods. A well balanced whisky i.e., not an expression that has been quickly shoved out the door, to pay the bills. We get a few of those, in our local tastings.

I’m a fan of the Ardbeg Corryvecken- have you tried that one?
Not yet.

I’ve always thought Ardbeg went best with a hearty breakfast of eggs, toast, sausage and beans. Makes me hungry (and thirsty) just thinking about it. Cheers all! :D Cheers:

On the rare occasion that I want a bit of smoke in my Scotch I turn to Ardbeg - this one attracted me because of the Black Sherry casks. Usually Lagavulin 16YO is enough but Ardbeg knows how to do smoke best. I'm about to open another triple-distilled Auchentoshan too - it's not a smoky Scotch but if you haven't tried it, give yourself a treat and find one to try.

Tried the Old Bardstown Bottled in Bond tonight (the Food & Wine 98pt bourbon).

In my opinion, there are better mid grade bourbons. It tastes like the quintessential “bourbon ball” bourbon, but it’s no 98 pts in my book. It’s very dry and the nose isn’t the best. I’d give it a 6.5-7/10. However, for $18.99, it’s better than Jim Beam.

JTS Brown BIB is well worth trying compared to Old Bardstown.
