Which is the signature animal for each Hunting country?

USA: Groundhogs in the east, prairie dogs and ground squirrels in the west.

Take the US, put a line north and south right through the center (but include the whole state of Texas), and take everything east, and its Whitetail deer.

Everything west of that is a mixture of elk, mule deer, and pronghorn.

middle USA to eastern USA - whitetail deer. Western USA- Elk. Alaska -Brown Bear, Maine-Moose. We cover a lot of area.

Kevin, are you asking me?

If so it would be WT Deer

Yep.. if its 1 for the entire country... its white tail.. Its pretty much prolific across 3/4 of the US and has to be the most hunted animal on 4 legs in the country..

I went through this process when planning our first trip to Africa and once we decided on Namibia as our destination, I then looked into an animal specific to Namibia. One that probably isn't found anywhere else, unless it was a relocation animal to a private ranch. That meant it was the Hartmann's Mt Zebra, home range Namibia.
While Namibia is known for it's large amount of Oryx, the Oryx can be found in many countries in Africa in hunt able numbers.
Other countries/animals for me:
Cape Mt Zebra, South Africa
Crawshay's Zebra, Zambia
Kudu, Botswana
and I'll probably be a rest home by the time I get those three hunts done.....

Just to give an idea to the foreign based hunters, this is just one state's quota for antlerless deer. There are close to 400,000 antlered deer killed in addition to the antlerless quota. One has to remember, this is just for one state, albeit one of the most popular for white tail deer hunting. I hunt 5C and 5D plus my home state of Delaware and kill five to eight a season.

The link shows how many antlerless licenses sold and unsold.

" Year in and year out, the whitetail deer reigns as America's No. 1 big-game animal, with an annual harvest of roughly 6 million animals." I'd agree there are more deer harvested annually than there are Elk in the country.

Wow! I see the total deer population is sitting at around 33 million, so no shortage there.
