I see we have now two active threads about indigenous species.(y)

For the gemsbok, I would say Namibia, arid savanna (cheapest trophy fee + indigenous species)

For remaining, lets see what the others have to say.

This is more or less their original distribution. Not ment to be the Smithers Mammals of SA, but a safe idea, and where I would be comfortable to hunt them. I've hunted all but Roan, and some others that are not on the list and will later give a list of my favorite areas for each.

Not all of the animals you list have been, or can be, easily moved. For example, I'm not aware of Vaal Rhebok outside of the Easter Cape, and I think blue duiker has not been introduced outside of its original range. Not sure about red duiker - I hunted one in Natal, where they are native.

Personally, my preference is to hunt an animal in its original habitat. Having said that, I plead guilty to hunting lechwe in South Africa, for example, so I won't be pedantic about that preference. But I will admit that there's something not quite "right" or "authentic" about hunting animals which have been introduced solely for the purpose of being hunted, rather than chasing them where God put them.

I saw lechwe in the Eastern Cape, and wasn’t keen on the idea of hunting them there. I saw waterbuck in the Kalahari and that didn’t spin my wheels either.

Hank I pretty much agree with your sentiment.

Some of the biggest Vaal Rhebuck occurring in SA are around the Overberg area in the Western Cape, ie towns like Caledon, Napier, Bredasdorp, Riversdal and Swellendam. Likewise the South western parts of the Northern Cape around Calvinia, Fraserburg and Sutherland have exceptional Vaalies. They also occur elsewhere.

Red and blue duiker inhabit the Eastern coastal forests which spans from the Eastern Cape south of the Transkei all along Natal and into Mozam

Hi Hank,

Well said.

I completely agree with your sentiment. I have made it sort of a "discipline" to only hunt species in their endemic habitat. That has some built in in-efficiencies. Say the Lechwes, they tend to have very limited areas they are endemic to. Black Lechwe, only Bangweulu, Kafue Lechwe, Kafue flats etc. And I believe but am not 100% sure about the Red Lechwe being Okavango extending into Namibia.
