I am building a load for a custom Remington 700 chambered for 375 RUM. I am a Leupold bigot and was thinking of mounting a VX6HD scope on it. Which best matches the round: the 1x6 or 2x12. I will be ordering a CDS feature when the decision is made.

That is a long ranger, I'd do the 2-12 for sure.

You can use that gun for everything. A 250 CX or TTSX would be a laser. No reason to hand cap it with a 1-6,.

And no reason to handicap it with a Luepold.

Nightforce NXS 2.5-10 or Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 on a Pic rail with some Nightforce rings or even better a Spuhr mount.

This was a good thread a while ago. Two groups of thought. I started with a 1.5-5 and moved to a 2-10 on my 375. I see no functional difference between 1, 1.5, 2x but I see a huge difference in 5x vs 10x or 12x.

2x is great for everything. I shot a red stag and a wild boar last Friday at 2x at 30 and 50 yards both on the run.

Thursday I dialed to 10 to shoot a red deer hind at over 100 because I had to thread the needle between two trees and she was standing there.

When you need more, you need more.

This is on Zeiss V8 1.4-14 or whatever they are.

I recommend the physically lightest weight scope to minimize the Moment of Inertia under heavy recoil of the .375 Rum and as uplander01 points out, the scope with the largest amount of critical eye relief.

I have the Leupold 2-12 x 42 Vx6 on my 375 RUM. Worked perfectly on the Eland Safari in Cameroon.

find an old Nikon Monarch, it will hold up to all the recoil.

Definitely the 2-12x VX6. I'm still trying to figure out what the 1-6x is for.

You can't go wrong with either, but for a blend of close-range capability and long-range precision, the VX-6HD 2-12x42 is the champion for your .375 RUM.

Is for hunting or punching paper ? 6x is plenty of magnification for hunting out as far as I can make reliable hits ie 200m. However I feel that extra magnification is nice on targets. Hunting, I like to see the animal and be able to line up the leg/ pick one third of the body etc. If you zoom too much, all you see is fur and if you pull the trigger then it is a crapshoot where you hit. Another common problem I have seen is hunters playing with their scopes because the magnification is set too high and they can't pick up the animal. You want to get on the sticks find your aim and squeeze the trigger. Field of view and long eye relief are more important than zoomies.

My advice, take a colored paper plate to the range along with a 3ft square box. See how that looks at different distances. If you can see the whole box and hit the plate, you are good to go on impala at that distance and zoom. I am happy with 4x zoom to around 100m and have never gone over 8 on my 3006 while hunting. At the range from field positions(resting on my pack or off a tree or tripod) I usually don't use 12 x or higher because I see wobbles and end up chasing the crosshairs all over the place. Maybe other guys are super steady. So go try it for yourself and then decide.

I upgraded to a 2-10 but I still hunt on 5x. The opportunity to turn to 10x for 300 yard shots is a big advantage to me. Also very valuable for shots on hippo or croc.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
