AH Community - I am wondering if any of you Reloading Masters would have any Data / Loading Specs. for the .375 Westley Richards / 9,5 x 66 vom Hofe Super Express?
I should point out that there is conflicting details on the history of the cartridge as it has been stated that Kynoch developed the .375/303 case in 1905, and was called the Kynoch Axite; the case is referred to by various sources as the .375/303 Westley Richards Accelerated Express, but it is wrong. Westley Richards had nothing to do with the development of the Kynoch Axite .375/.303 round.
However, there is information that establishes that the Kynoch .375/.303 is not the .375 Westley Richards , as the .375 Westley Richards is in fact the 9,5 x 66 SE vom Hofe, as the firm worked with Walter Gehmann [who had purchased the rights to the vom Hofe trademark, ca. 1945] , and ammo MFG Wolfgang Romey. The partnership was established due to Westley Richards wanting a cartridge that fit into a standard Mauser Action.
The issue I am having is the conflicting data I've found - NOT internet / AI slop - one source gives the bullet diameter as .310/.311 ~ (7,9mm) , .215Gr projectile - however, I've seen, and confirmed data [IAA Forum] that has the bullet diameter as .330 ~ (8,4mm) , .250Gr - which coincidentally was used in the .318WR.
However, Westley Richards has on the books a build for a magazine gun .375 Westley Richards 300Grn Bullet.
I am aware of the fact that, in the heyday of when those rifles were built, the customer was king and it is possible a rifle would have been built to the customers specification. Despite, the 9,3 x 66 SE vom Hofe ( 9,5 = .375in) would more likely be the cartridge that has a .300Grn projectile.
What I am wondering, is the information or load data contradictory because of the confusion with the Kynoch .375/.303 vs. the 9,5x66 SE?
So, does anyone have or aware of any writings or data for the seemingly "obsolete" cartridge 9,5x66 SE - WR .375 ?
I went down a rabbit hole & hoping the savvy crew here on AH can unscramble things ....
