Finally after waiting 6 months i received my warthog that i shot last year. She ain't no record setting trophy, but she is my first warthog and i skull mount all my "First" species regardless of size as i am not a trophy hunter, but rather a "meat" hunter.

Just thought of sharing as this turned out better than I hoped.

Well done, you did well for your first, thats a nice Big Old Sow, looks great !

Turned out good! Nothing wrong with that. How'd she taste?

Honestly delicious!!! Made cheese sausage, shanks and left the hind roasts, did a low and slow pulled pork style with the roasts. Just wish there were more. Will have to hunt more than one this year.

How do they compare to "regular pork"?

If i had a choice, i would never eat "normal" pork again if i could get warthog. Nothing wrong with pork. But this is just better. Its hard to explain as you still get a "pork" taste but yet its not the same. If you manage to get some, i highly recommend you try it

Thinking about it its the same as store bought bacon, its delicious until you have traditionally made cured bacon old school style. After tasting the real deal, the store bought prosessed bacon isn't as good as you you remember. Same thing applies here. Pork was great until i had warthog.

I much prefer Bushpig myself but it is a little harder to get !

And they're so much fun to hunt.

Well done - looks nice!

very cool, I am going to have mine done that way when I get it. I am not a trophy hunter but do hope to get one with big tusks for my first one time is dragging so slow for my first hunt to come in April

The tusks are slightly larger when you get then skull mounted as much of the skin covers them,. So they might look small when you shoot them. But after it is mounted you realize the actual scale.

What caught me by supprise was just how sharp those bottom teeth are. I mean i knew that they were sharp. But how sharp is scary.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

Nice mount. In the past I have only kept the teeth but will do your mount on next one. Can’t explain it but love hunting them.

It is just awesome hunting them. Cant explain it either

My Son shot a nice sow when we were in South Africa. They refused to cook any of it. Not even the loins.

Did they say why?

Yeah I to love hunting Warthog & Bushbuck, got many of each & will hunt them again when I can .

Strange that they refused if you asked for some Warthog meat, even if they served up some other Hog & told you it was that one, could of had some thing dodgy inside or they had a order for one to sell, the outfit I work with doesn't like serving Warthog as they find it a bit Warthog tasting, I to think it has a after taste !

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
