Cajun Hunter is looking for a nice double. 416 Rigby would be optimal but would consider other calibers. Nothing really fancy but practical hunting tool is what I’d like. Know there are some old guy’s out there who may not be using their stuff anymore so let’s chat.

I would get one in 450/400 or 500/416. Doubles need rimmed cartridges! Good luck with your search

Here is one

Go .450-400 3&14”. 400gr at 2150 is ample

A bit out of the ordinary, but if you are in Europe and it has to be a 416 Rigby double…

The 500/416 was developed by Krieghoff to duplicate the 416RIGBY ballistics in a rimmed cartridge with ammo available from Norma, Hornady and Nosler. An excellent choice for a double rifle caliber.

Here is another. The maker has a grand reputation and it come with a bunch of ammo. It is detachable side lock to boot. I wish it had a little less drop at the heel. It would be mine if it did.
Tony Sanchez has very high regards for Harald Wolf as a gunmaker.

Great decision to be looking for a double, classis shooting is special. The 450/400 3" is a good choice, can do anything, but relatively mild. The 450/400 3 1/4" is great too, but ammo and components are harder to come by.

My only concern would be weight. I owned one of these in 470 NE and it about took my shoulder off to being underweight. I can’t tell what this weight is…they make a beautiful sound rifle. Just make sure weight and LOP match caliber and you

I have a 450-400 3 1/4 Boswell circa 1907 that I would part with. Plenty of brass, dies, hard case etc.
PM me if interested. Live in south Louisiana.

I would think a .416 is a lot of pressure for a double no? Thought the point was to shoot low pressure rounds so easy to eject the shells? Educate me please.

Hey, I have a couple of questions if you please. Are you in Europe or is the gun there or both. I would certainly be interested in what appears to be a very fine rifle.
please get any clarifications back to me.
Thanks !! AJ

You can’t give away a 416 Rigby double, so definitely don’t pay anywhere near the assumed value of the same double in a rimmed cartridge.

They run through the auction houses occasionally, selling rather cheap. Usually from a seller that didn’t know not to buy one passing it on to a new buyer equally uninformed.

Bottom line, if that’s what you really want, be patient and you’ll find one for a very low price.

Both, I’m in Europe, Belgium and this rifle is also in Belgium.

It is a very fine made rifle indeed, but look at @rookhawk ‘s post above this one for why it is listed at such a low price.

It is a double big bore, but over and under, and not in a typical rimmed cartridge. Then again, less then 6000€ for a double big bore in a strong Browning action with very nice engraving is not too bad either.

Here is the link with a few more pictures. I can ask them for additional pictures if you are very interested.

The 416 Rigby was deliberately developed to operate @ about 40,000 C U P (I think), not excessive for a well-built double ... Just don't go silly pushing loads. Get the maker's test ammo listing, and use that.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is 239 565-8988. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
