USA: Texas Hog Hunt With Rockin G Ranch

I killed a sow a number of years ago that weighed about 200 lbs. She was TERRIBLE!!!

Since that day, I have a personal limit of about 100-125 lbs that go in my freezer.

I've been told by outfitters that Boars under 250 Lbs. were good eating. But that boars over that weight were not. They said something about "boar taint." I'd like to hear from others that have taken a number of hogs what they think about feral hogs as table fare.
I don't eat the nasty things anyway but if they're under 100 lbs they're palatable.

I have killed a lot of wild hogs here in East and South Texas. I've had some fairly large boars (180 lbs or so) that were good eating and some sows that were not. If you skin the hog and then smell the meat you can usually tell if it's going to be okay, no guarantees, every one is different. If you get a good one the backstrap sliced and chicken fried with some good gravy can't be beat. A ham slow cooked as a roast is also good. Either way they are sure fun to hunt, especially stalking them through the river bottom.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
