USA: Finally Got Big One!

Beautiful. Some of my best memories of deer hunting have been in your great state. San Angelo area also has a fabulous turkey population. Killed some stud gobblers, and saw a lot of deer too. Congratulations on your patience and success.

Congratulations! I have/had a 170+” on our low fence place for years. Gets better every year. I haven’t seen him for months. I was worried he got hit or poached. Only to find out he’s now a 180 or 190… about 1000 yards away on my neighbors place. Ugh….. it hits personal. Been watching him for 4 years… waiting & watching.

Philip what is your estimate of score…I know how humble you are sincerely but sometimes it’s okay to crow and this is one of them my friend!!!
He scored 277 1/8”!

What rifle setup is that? Been looking at getting a Ruger American myself
This is Ruger American Ranch in 5.56. This is my go to gun. For deer blind shots at or under 100 yards with heavy Barnes or Swift it does well on Texas Whitetail.
it has an older Silencer Tech suppressor and a Leupold VXR scope with red dot.

@Philip Glass , Perhaps you already said this, but what part of the country did you take this buck? My guess is south or west Texas, or maybe a little further out west(?).
Water Valley, Coke County, TX

Congrats! Impressive either way but just curious was the property low or high fence?
Definitely high fence. I cant let my neighbors shoot my deer! This buck was born and raised on the ranch. It was not pen raised. Many years of management and effort to do this.
I have both high fence and low fenced ranches.

Definitely still amazing, and I very much respect the difference between high fence and pen raised, just curious. Awesome you were able to let and watch him grow to his prime on your own land!

I've never taken a really big trophy Whitetail although ive hunted my whole life. After years of intensive management this buck came my way. This is a home raised buck and one ive seen near my home for a few years now,

God I hate you, just kidding, sort of...would you mind posting that picture on my thread "What turns people green with envy"? lol (congrats)

Just found this post! Awesome buck Philip! Congratulations! I would love to just see one of that caliber in my lifetime!

Without question a deer of a lifetime! I had two farms here in GA and spent a lot of money clearing land, raising food plots, being patient to let deer age. Huge to me was taking 140-150 scoring deer which was huge for my area. I have taken over 100+ deer in my life and now only hunt Africa no longer deer. Philip I both know and can appreciate the labor of love farming your own land and then having this kind of accomplishment. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

As an European I am not familiar with whitetail deer, never knew they can grow this big. Wmh!

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
