Figured y'all would appreciate these rifles "being brought back to life." My primary hunting rifles are a M70 in 280 Rem and a 336 in 30-30, so adding a couple of metric cartridges brought some European diversity to the gun cabinet. The first is a Husky 1640 in 6.5x55. It was in good working order but rough exterior shape upon arrival. The stock got repaired behind the tang (very happy with contour and lack of seam, not with color/grain match, but couldn't find a closer match); stripped and refinished walnut; bolt jeweled, barreled action re-blued; bottom metal repainted with aluma-hyde; epoxy bedded and barrel free floated; new red decelerator ground to fit. Still looking for a vintage HVA "snow hood" for the front sight.
The second is a Winchester 670 that started like as a 30-06. Had it rebored to 9.3x62. Stock stripped and refinished; bolt jeweled; nitro recoil pad ground to fit (I don't mind the recoil but I'd like my wife to be able to shoot the rifle, too); barreled action re-blued; a friend added aluminum pillars for me; then epoxy bedded the tang and did the entire barrel channel. Had a little accident late in the process and had to repair wood right under where the blind mag box sits, but it got epoxied and blended back to virtual invisibility. This one has a beech wood stock that got dyed before receiving its oil finish. It came out looking great, but I've been mulling whether or not buy an unfinished walnut stock from Richards or Boyds to hit with the oil myself. Also planning to keep this one un-scoped and add new fiber optic sights.
