Turkish airlines and firearms???

When I bought my ticket, I clicked add sporting, hunting, shooting equipment, and paid $460 for the rifle as seen below. Today i called asking the agent to verify it shows I'm bringing a rifle. Agent didn't seem to know what was going on and told me to upload gun paperwork under the feedback tab and that made nonsense, only paper work I have is 4457. Who uses Turkish airlines and how do you go about bringing your rifle?

I use Gracy Travel to handle the firearms details. You may want to use one of the safari travel agents, like Gracy.

I am sorry I cannot answer your question, but having traveled various airlines over the years, I have learned to print out multiple copies of everything, including what you have above, and take that with you to the airport.

As @Doug3006 mentions, perhaps you could call a travel agent, or try calling back to Turkish Airlines and try speaking to a different agent. You'll find 5 different agents may very well give you 5 different answers.

When I fly to South Africa, I feel comfortable booking my own flights, when I travel to other countries I always use a travel agent.

I wish you good luck sorting this out, obviously, it is way more frustrating than it should be!!

I have flown Turkish Airlines, but not with firearms.

Agree with the suggestion that using a knowledgeable travel agent when flying with firearms internationally is the way to go.

On the Turkish Airlines website, there is a link to a pdf document that provides some instructions. To me, it looks like a nightmare of a process.

What to do when carrying a sporting rifle on flights

Transportation of hunting equipment on domestic flights

1. Go to police checkpoint and hand over your rifle.

2. Contact the counter and give rifle information.

3. Go to the Ticket Sales Office and complete rifle carrying payment (if there is a charge).

4. Contact the officers at the counter to obtain a rifle label.

5. Go to the police checkpoint and complete remaining procedures.


Transportation of hunting equipment on international flights

1. Go to police checkpoint and hand over your rifle and the necessary documents (sales invoice of the rifle, boarding pass, a photocopy of passport/ID).

2. Contact the counter and give rifle information.

3. Go to the Ticket Sales Office and complete rifle carrying payment (if there is a charge).

4. Contact the counter to obtain a rifle label.

5. Proceed to the police station, with an assigned security personnel to complete the remaining procedures.

6. With a security personnel, apply to the Customs Enforcement Office to complete customs procedures.
