If you do a layover in Dubai for a day or so, with a firearm, keep in mind that the Dubai Police (not Airport Police) will keep your rifle AND the suitcase with ammo in storage off site. You won't see it while you are at the airport. So pack accordingly. Don't put anything in suitcase that you might need while in Dubai at hotel etc.
Furthermore the Airline representatives, e.g. Emirates, are not totally familiar with the details of this process.
Dubai Customs will not be of any help. They don't have a clue about this process. We wasted about six hours
at the airport recently when stopping over in Dubai for a couple of days after hunting in South Africa. What
a drag.

Any suggested contact information?

What fun were you up to in Dubai?

We were in South Africa for the first time. Flew through Dubai on Emirates. Never been to Dubai, thought we would stop and see the sights.
Tallest building in the world, tallest hotel in the world. Unbelievable amount of construction going on now. No crime, no visible poverty---
contrast with South Africa. Rode sand dunes in SUVs with roll bars.

Contact info for what? Emirates airlines will suggest stayover packages. What to see, tours etc. Your travel agent, if you have one,
can make suggestions too.

I spent a few day layover in Dubai in 2014. I arranged the fire arms to be held with when I was booking my flight. It was easy and pleasant experience. I really enjoyed Dubai. It's a wounderfull city. Enjoy your trip.
