There is a William Evans 470 Double coming up for auction soon. Unfortunately they haven’t put out the full catalog so I don’t have any specifics on the rifle but was wanting to know general thoughts on these doubles, what to look for, good years bad years, etc…

If I recall correctly the William Evan’s 470 was Peter Capstick’s favorite doubles in his books all which I have read that he used

I’m hoping this one might be in grasp! Wasn’t Capstick’s William Evans 470 stolen? Maybe I’m wrong?

I am not a DR person but I ama reader of Africa hunting. The William Evan’s rifle always had high support in my readings.
The rest will be dependent on care and usage over the years.
Good Luck

William Evan’s built very nice reliable doubles. Solid working mans double. I would be very happy to own one.

Built by Webley & Scott “In the white” for William Evans, employing their famed PHV1 boxlock ejector action. This one is definitely a keeper for sure. My white hunter friend Jeff Rann is currently using a variant in .500 Nitro Express as his elephant backup rifle of choice (loaded with DZOMBO MK. 6 flat nosed monolithic brass solids). Robin Hurt (of Tanzanian fame) also owns one in .500 Nitro Express.

Never let it go !

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
